{"id":1030,"date":"2008-06-23T11:00:52","date_gmt":"2008-06-23T17:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamingwithchildren.com\/?p=1030"},"modified":"2008-06-23T11:00:52","modified_gmt":"2008-06-23T17:00:52","slug":"goodbye-george-carlin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/23\/goodbye-george-carlin\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodbye George Carlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/carlin.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>If you are of a certain age, you grew up listening to George Carlin records.\u00a0 You enjoyed his observations and his ironic looks at the crazy things we did with our lives.\u00a0 If you are of another age, you remember him primarily as Rufus from Bill &amp; Ted and later found that he was a famous comedian from the 70&#8217;s.\u00a0 If you belong to yet another generation you met him as Mr. Conductor on PBS.\u00a0 If you are of still another generation, you know him as Filmore from Disney\/Pixar&#8217;s Cars and have probably watched a few YouTube clips of his stuff.\u00a0 But for anyone across those generations, we today mourn the loss of a voice of intelligence and introspection in an otherwise bawdy form of entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>We get news today that George Carlin died of heart failure yesterday.\u00a0 He had a history of heart troubles, but complaining of chest pains he headed to the hospital and eventually died of a heart attack at 71.\u00a0 He will be sorely missed.\u00a0 Rather than saying anymore, I will just drop in a few quotes &#8230; and keeping them family friendly means having to narrow my choices somewhat &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Another word you don&#8217;t hear too often is &#8220;dingleberries.&#8221; You know, you never hear it on <em>Meet the Press<\/em>. I think it&#8217;s because &#8220;dingleberries&#8221; is one of those words you don&#8217;t say too much past your tenth birthday. It&#8217;s not a grown-up&#8217;s word; it&#8217;s a kid&#8217;s word. &#8220;Dingleberries!&#8221; It always sounded kind of Christmas-y to me. Don&#8217;t you think it has a holiday ring to it? &#8220;Dingleberries.&#8221; John, you might want to hang some dingleberries over the front door. Then when Marianne comes over, she can kiss you under the dingleberries! &#8220;It is to be devoutly <em>wished<\/em> . . . that she would kiss me . . . under the dingleberries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Honesty may be the best policy, but it\u2019s important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I like Florida. Everything is in the 80\u2019s.
