It’s a 2-D fighter featuring a cast of anime-styled female characters. A lot of times when I play a new fighting game, I like to write a blog about the characters in that game. At first I wasn’t going to do that with this one, but once I played it, I discovered that there a quite a few neat characters in it, and I thought it would be fun to write a little blog about them after all. Keep in mind that I may miss secret characters and leave out details here and there. But I’m just writing this as a fun, filler blog so you’re just going to have to deal with my nonsense. So let’s take a look at the characters in this silly fighter.

Heart

I think she’s supposed to be the main character. Fighting game main characters are usually pretty boring, and she’s no exception. She’s just a generic anime schoolgirl. When she fights, giant, flashy hearts come out of her fists and such. Each character in the game is paired up with an Arcana, a magical being based on an element, material, or emotion. This character’s Arcana element is ‘love’ and is supposed to look like an angel.

Weiss

That’s German for ‘white.’ One of the few things I remember from taking German in high school and college. She has mean-looking red eyes, though, and uses lots of sword attacks. Her Arcana is even a sword, which explains why she can materialize swords from her fists.

Saki

It’s another schoolgirl, and this one fights with electric attacks from her thunder Arcana. I promise the characters get more interesting, folks, just keep reading.

Scharlachrot

Yeah I’d like to see anyone try and remember how to spell that name, much less pronounce it. She’s an evil looking girl who reminds me of a Disgaea character. She uses a chain to attack.

Petra

She wears a short, princess-like skirt and uses guns to attack. She reminds me of Devilot from many of Capcom’s games. So yeah, Devilot with guns.

Elsa

Nothing interesting about this character, really. She wears a dress but has bad looking posture in her fighting stance. She uses a cross-shaped fencing style sword thing to attack.

Clarice

She dresses like a nun, but I don’t think she’s on God’s side since she has demon bat wings and her Arcana is associated with sin.

Eko

This is one of my favorite characters. Eko is just a little girl, but she doesn’t do any of the fighting. Instead, she has a child’s drawing come to life, who carries Eko around like a baby, do all the work. In fact, one of the moves she has is to make the drawing turn his hand into a notebook, and then she draws on it and a little picture of a flower or house comes out and falls to the ground. Not sure what good that does, though. Her Arcana represents ‘luck’ which may explain why one of her attacks is throwing a big pair of dice around.

Zenia

She’s kind of a cool character. She uses a weird extendable fist sword thing as a weapon, looks pretty strong, and she’s not an underage girl like a lot of the other characters are. She has a lot of ice attacks, and I read that her Arcana is a penguin. I was hoping it would be a cute little waddling penguin, which would be perfectly possible in this game. But it’s a more mean-looking penguin and you hardly ever see it, so I was disappointed.

Lieselotte

Now this is one of the more creepy characters in this game. She’s a little gothic girl who carries around a huge suitcase. But when she opens it, a disturbing-looking legless puppet pops out and comes to life and crawls around the screen. You can make it attack, or she has a shadow that can pop out and fight, too. I think her Arcana is even called a shadow. The puppet is just really weird.

Dorothy

This little girl looks more like a boy and dresses like a magician. She uses giant cards to throw at the opponent, and even surfs on a card as her dash move. Her Arcana is Mirror which she uses to copy the opponent’s moves and sends it back to them.

Kamui

Another one of the few characters who isn’t seemingly underage. She has a cool outfit and sword, and uses her Time Arcana to speed herself up and slow down and even temporarily stop her opponents.

Konoha

A little girl who wears school gym clothes and uses ninja attacks and plant-based moves.

Nazuna

She rides a white wolf and has a bird fly around her, so she reminds me of both Capcom’s Okami and Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown.

Akane

There’s nothing really unusual or special about this character, but she’s one of my favorites because I like her attacks and fighting style in the game. And she doesn’t seem annoyingly underage either.

Mei-Fang

She’s one of my favorite characters also because I like her fighting style and she’s one of the few fighters who doesn’t look underage. She’s a well-endowed android lady who has a funny creator (also a woman) who rides around in a Segway that has the Ying-Yang symbol on the wheels. She uses a lot of fire attacks, so her Arcana is a fire wolf.

Kira

This is another one of my favorites. She’s a little girl wearing a bathing suit, and her Arcana is a giant blob of water. She swims in the blob of water and the blob does all the fighting moves for her, growing muscular water arms to punch and throw and whatnot.

Catherine

For some reason, she reminds me of a young Blue Mary from the Fatal Fury games. But the cool thing is that here, she pilots a giant robot that looks like something Dr. Robotnik would’ve created!

Angelia

She’s just an angel girl with a halo. Naturally her Arcana represents light.

Fiona

This girl wears a maid outfit and carries around a sword that’s way too heavy for her.

Yoriko

This unusual girl wears witch clothes, and carries around a staff with an ugly face on it. But the staff appears to have a life of its own, and she can’t seem to control it. The staff looks like it drags her around and it does all the attacks and work while she makes annoying whiny sounds. She does have a funny throw move where the staff’s head grows big, swallows the other player, and spits them out!

Lilica

She’s just a rollerblading girl but she has little bat wings. Her Arcana represents wind but looks like a whale for some reason.

Maori

She dresses like a Japanese Shinto priestess, so she reminds me of Pocky from the Pocky and Rocky games.

Conclusions

And those are all the characters. I have to note a couple of non-playable characters, too. First, the last boss is just a giant metal robot statue come to life, and you defeat it by destroying a certain number of targets on it in the time limit, so that was a little different. Its name was Ragnarok or Fenrir I think. Also, there is a ditzy green haired reporter lady who tells about some of the actions going on in Story Mode, and she cracked me up, too. I wish she was playable. Anyway, let me know what you think of my list, and tell me if you have any favorite characters from this game. That’s all for now! Later! –Cary

I just got done reviewing a game called Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!!
