{"id":14383,"date":"2015-12-30T00:01:05","date_gmt":"2015-12-30T00:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=14383"},"modified":"2015-12-05T03:39:20","modified_gmt":"2015-12-05T03:39:20","slug":"rodea-the-sky-soldier-wii-u-3ds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2015\/12\/30\/rodea-the-sky-soldier-wii-u-3ds\/","title":{"rendered":"Rodea: The Sky Soldier (Wii U, 3DS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=14380\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14380\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-14380\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_BOX-107x150.jpg\" alt=\"RODEA_BOX\" width=\"107\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_BOX-107x150.jpg 107w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_BOX-214x300.jpg 214w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 107px) 100vw, 107px\" \/><\/a>Emperor Geardo rules a terrestrial land that is having an energy crisis, so he plans to invade the floating islands of Garuda because they have a limitless energy source.\u00a0 Once every 1,000 years, Garuda floats over Emperor Geardo\u2019s land, so he plans to use an artifact called the Time Key to make Garuda stop moving.\u00a0 The princess of Garuda and her humanoid robot bodyguard Rodea snatch the Time Key and split it into two, preventing this from happening.\u00a0 But when Geardo attacks, the princess and Rodea are separated and Rodea falls into a desert and gets buried for 1,000 years!\u00a0 He is discovered by a mechanic on Garuda, but when they return home, a hologram of the Emperor threatens to take over again!\u00a0 Can Rodea protect the floating islands and prevent history from repeating itself?\u00a0 Rodea: The Sky Soldier is available for Wii U and 3DS, but reviewed on Wii U here.<\/p>\n<p>The history behind the game is kind of interesting.\u00a0 It was originally made for the Wii, but was never released.\u00a0 Later on it was resurrected for the Wii U and 3DS, and published in the US by NIS.\u00a0 The game is like a cross between the 3-D Sonic Adventure games and NiGHTS, which makes sense because all three games were made by Yuji Naka and his team.<\/p>\n<p>The game is a 3-D action game where you play as Rodea.\u00a0 You can run and jump on the ground, but there isn\u2019t a lot to do down there so most of the action is in the air.\u00a0 When you double jump, a cursor will appear and you can point it at a direction you want to fly and you\u2019ll soar in the air.\u00a0 You have a limited amount of energy that you use to fly, so take care that it doesn\u2019t run out.\u00a0 You can boost while flying, and defeat enemies by attacking them, too.\u00a0 Be on the lookout for items and rings that you can fly through so you can refill your flying energy or get a boost of speed.\u00a0 At the end of each stage, you can upgrade Rodea\u2019s stats, giving him more health or flight time, or brand new skills altogether.<\/p>\n<p>While the play control sounds simple, for the life of me I could not get the hang of it for some reason.\u00a0 Because of that, I can\u2019t say I really liked the game much.\u00a0 Disorienting camera angles didn&#8217;t help either.\u00a0 But if you enjoy classics like Sonic Adventure or NiGHTS, you might want to check this one out anyway as it has that \u201cDreamcast feel\u201d to it.\u00a0 And let me know if you can figure out the controls, because I sure couldn\u2019t!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=14381\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14381\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14381\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"RODEA_SCREEN\" width=\"495\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_SCREEN.jpg 495w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_SCREEN-150x85.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RODEA_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rodea: The Sky Soldier is rate E-10 with ESRB descriptors of Fantasy Violence and Mild Language.
