font-family: Times New Roman;\">Keep in mind that no outside opinions went into the making of this list.\u00a0 It\u2019s just my own picks.\u00a0 And if a game is missing from my list, it either didn\u2019t appeal to me as much, or I just simply haven\u2019t played it yet.\u00a0 Can\u2019t play all the games out there, you know!\u00a0 Plus I do apologize if this list leans toward the Nintendo side.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have an Xbox One or PS4, so you\u2019ll just have to deal with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I also have to note that I felt last year we had more interesting and better games than we do at this point in the year.\u00a0 I guess if you like shooters like the new Doom or Overwatch, it\u2019s been a good year for games so far.\u00a0 But not for games of my tastes.\u00a0 Hopefully it\u2019ll get better as the year goes on, but it still looks pretty sparse right now.\u00a0 Anyway, without further ado, welcome to the Cary\u2019s Best Games of 2016 SO FAR Awards Show!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">BEST RPG<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/29\/carys-top-ten-mario-rpgs\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mario &amp; Luigi: Paper Jam (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">There\u2019s been quite a few new RPGs this year so far, and we\u2019ll be getting a few more by the end of the year as well.\u00a0 So if you like RPGs, this has been a good year for you I guess.\u00a0 Mario &amp; Luigi: Paper Jam is a crossover title between the Mario &amp; Luigi and Paper Mario series.\u00a0 It has a few problems and isn\u2019t the best Mario RPG out there.\u00a0 But I still beat it and it\u2019s better than some of the other Mario RPG titles I\u2019ve played recently.\u00a0 So I guess it can\u2019t be all bad.\u00a0 Speaking of RPGs that we\u2019ll be getting by the end of the year, Paper Mario: Color Splash is coming out on Wii U later this year as well.\u00a0 Let\u2019s hope it\u2019s better than the last main Paper Mario game: Sticker Star!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Runner Up:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/11\/project-x-zone-2-team-capcom\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Project X-Zone 2 (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">This strategy RPG features characters from popular game companies like Capcom, SEGA, Namco, and Nintendo.\u00a0 It plays pretty much exactly the same as the last game, but this one had Phoenix Wright in it so I had to get it.\u00a0 If you like the characters in this game, you may want to check it out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">BEST 3-D ADVENTURE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/18\/lego-marvels-avengers-ps3-ps4-vita-wii-u-3ds-xbox-one-360\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">LEGO Marvel\u2019s Avengers (PS3)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">There just isn\u2019t very many 3-D platformers like there used to be.\u00a0 That\u2019s why upcoming titles like Yooka-Laylee are such a welcome thing.\u00a0 LEGO Marvel\u2019s Avengers wins by default because it\u2019s the only 3-D game I\u2019ve played this year so far.\u00a0 It\u2019s OK, but not that great.\u00a0 I think Traveler\u2019s Tales had their B-team working on this one.\u00a0 Speaking of LEGO, I\u2019m going to be reviewing the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens game, but didn\u2019t get it in the mail in time for me to include it on this list.\u00a0 I imagine it\u2019ll probably be on here when I do my Game of the Year blog at the end of the year.\u00a0 I bet it\u2019s probably better than the Avengers game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">BEST CLASSIC COLLECTION\/REMAKE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/25\/amiibo-robos-lobos\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">When I first played Twilight Princess on the Wii, I didn\u2019t like it as much.\u00a0 The graphics were so muddy and blurry that it was hard to see where you could step, and it affected gameplay enough that it was frustrating. But the HD remake fixes all that.\u00a0 The graphics are much sharper, and there are no silly motion controls on the Wii U version, but it still works just as well.\u00a0 Now I like the game a lot better the second time around!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Runners Up:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/25\/amiibo-robos-lobos\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mega Man Legacy Collection (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">While I am disappointed that it doesn\u2019t have as many games as the Mega Man Anniversary Collection that came out ten years prior, this is still a decent compilation of the NES titles.\u00a0 Plus I got the special edition that came with a gold Mega Man amiibo figure!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/22\/shantae-riskys-revenge-directors-cut-wii-u-ps4-pc\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Shantae: Risky\u2019s Revenge Director\u2019s Cut (Wii U)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I\u2019m a huge fan of the Shantae games.\u00a0 While Risky\u2019s Revenge is my least favorite of the bunch, it\u2019s still a fantastic game and worth playing.\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait for the new game coming out later this year: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.\u00a0 That one has Game of the Year quality on it, right there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/10\/the-games-of-sega-3-d-classics-collection\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">SEGA 3-D Classics Collection (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">You don\u2019t really see arcade collections anymore, so I try to nab them when I see them.\u00a0 It\u2019s a pretty decent selection of SEGA classics, although I wish we could\u2019ve gotten the Streets of Rage one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">BEST FIGHTING GAME<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/15\/the-fighters-of-pokken-tournament\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Pokken Tournament (Wii U)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Forget Street Fighter V, this game is where it\u2019s at (hey, at least it\u2019s a complete game, am I right?).\u00a0 It\u2019s a 3-D fighting game featuring many Pok\u00e9mon, and since it was made by the same folks who do the Tekken games, it\u2019s actually pretty good!\u00a0 And as with any good fighting game, it\u2019s easy enough for beginners to grasp, yet there\u2019s enough technique for pros to master.\u00a0 And hey, it has Pikachu in a Luchador outfit, what\u2019s not to like about that?\u00a0 If you like Pok\u00e9mon, you\u2019ll definitely want to try out this fun and colorful fighter.\u00a0 Now if only Nintendo would localize that Detective Pikachu game!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">BEST PUZZLE GAME<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/03\/mini-mario-friends-amiibo-challenge-wii-u-3ds\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mini Mario &amp; Friends: amiibo Challenge (Wii U)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">This was a free-to-play game, but you had to have several Mario themed amiibo figures to get the full enjoyment out of it.\u00a0 Since I have all the amiibo figures, I was able to get the full enjoyment!\u00a0 While I don\u2019t think it\u2019s worth the price to get a bunch of amiibos to play this game, I kind of consider it as a reward from Nintendo to people who avidly collect amiibo figures.\u00a0 It plays like most other Mario vs. Donkey Kong puzzlers, so it\u2019s a lot like Lemmings.\u00a0 But I really like Lemmings so I like this game as well!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">WEIRDEST GAME<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/29\/pocket-card-jockey-3ds\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Pocket Card Jockey (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">A game that combines horse racing and solitaire may seem really weird, but when you consider how many sports themed solitaire games there are on mobile devices, it\u2019s not that weird.\u00a0 In fact, if Nintendo does more mobile games in the future, this would be a good candidate. Aw heck, who am I kidding? The game is still weird!\u00a0 It\u2019s just presented in that quirky yet cute Japanese way.\u00a0 And also, the game is insanely addicting.\u00a0 So much so that I almost thought about making it my Game of the Year 2016 So Far, but I just couldn\u2019t bring myself to give that award to a solitaire game.\u00a0 This was also made by Game Freak, the same folks responsible for Pok\u00e9mon.\u00a0 If you\u2019re curious, you can download a free demo on the eShop, and the data from the demo will carry over to the main game if you decide to buy it.\u00a0 And the game is only 7 bucks so it\u2019s a great deal, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Runner Up:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/01\/rhythm-heaven-megamix-3ds\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Rhythm Heaven Megamix (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Of course this music rhythm game is weird, too, as it was made by the same folks who do the WarioWare series.\u00a0 I just wish it was a cartridge game and not a eShop only game, as it is still 30 bucks.\u00a0 But it is certainly the biggest Rhythm Heaven game out there, so at least you get what you pay for!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">And now for my Best Game of the Year 2016 So FAR (Taiko drum roll, please)\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">BEST GAME OF 2016 SO FAR<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/17\/carys-favorite-mech-games\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Kirby: Planet Robobot (3DS)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">And for those of you who know me, this shouldn\u2019t come as a big surprise, since I\u2019m such a huge Kirby fan.\u00a0 Even though it\u2019s pretty much more of the same from Kirby Triple Deluxe, it\u2019s still a fun game and it\u2019s cool to have Kirby tromp around in a mech.\u00a0 Although I think I like Triple Deluxe slightly more, just felt more epic to me.\u00a0 Anyway, will a game topple Kirby at the end of the year?\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 We\u2019ll just have to see.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;
