{"id":15243,"date":"2016-08-01T00:01:30","date_gmt":"2016-08-01T00:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=15243"},"modified":"2016-07-11T21:32:59","modified_gmt":"2016-07-11T21:32:59","slug":"lighteaters-ios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/01\/lighteaters-ios\/","title":{"rendered":"LightEaters (iOS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/light_box-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-15241\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/LIGHT_BOX-150x84.jpg\" alt=\"LIGHT_BOX\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/LIGHT_BOX-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/LIGHT_BOX-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/LIGHT_BOX.jpg 390w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>In this iOS game (reviewed on iPad here), you play as a boy who is afraid of the dark, but he must explore creepy pitch black factories and other dark locations for some reason.\u00a0 Armed with only a flashlight, you must help him gather keys and find the exit in this 2-D platform puzzler adventure, all the while avoiding shadowy creatures who can eat the light away from your flashlight and leave you in the dark!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">In each level, you\u2019ll explore a 2-D maze and use touch screen controls.\u00a0 Tap and slide to move left and right, slide diagonally to jump, and tap on objects and switches to activate them.\u00a0 Double tap to turn your flashlight on and off.\u00a0 You can also tap on icons on the bottom screen to view your map and choose power-ups.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">In each level you must find a key and head for the exit.\u00a0 But it\u2019s hard since most of your surroundings are shrouded in darkness.\u00a0 So you\u2019ll want to keep your flashlight on as much as possible.\u00a0 But be careful because on the top of the screen is a light meter, and if you have your flashlight on too long, it\u2019ll deplete.\u00a0 You must also watch out for yellow eyed toothy shadow critters called \u201cLightEaters.\u201d\u00a0 If they are nearby, they\u2019ll suck the juice out of your flashlight even quicker.\u00a0 To get past them, you must turn off your flashlight.\u00a0 There are also ground traps that\u2019ll also suck your light away unless you turn off your light.\u00a0 But when it\u2019s totally dark, another meter will go down.\u00a0 This is your nerve meter, and if it goes down all the way while you\u2019re in the dark, it\u2019s Game Over and you must start the level again.\u00a0 By finding hidden toys, animals, and getting through the levels quick, you\u2019ll earn stars, which are handy for unlocking new stages later on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The main problem I had with the game is the touch screen controls.\u00a0 This game requires you to keep monitoring your light and nerve meters, and one misstep can make you have to start over again.\u00a0 Jumping is especially problematic, and I think this type of game would\u2019ve better benefitted from a console controller, since the timing is more precise than on a touch screen. \u00a0Plus, sometimes you can earn power-ups, flashlight pictures and outfit parts by buying them with soda bottles, which you earn in the game.\u00a0 But you can also buy them with real money, too.\u00a0 It bugs me because this game already costs money to download.
