and evil covers the land. It’s up to Ikki to save the day. Ikki is a member of a race of cat people and she’s also one of the best hunters around. Guide her through 2-D platform jumping areas as she defeats enemies and overcomes obstacles in this game that has exploration elements similar to Metroid style titles. Hunter’s Legacy is available to download on PS4 and Xbox One, but reviewed on PS4 here.

Ikki can run and jump, as well as swing her sword to defeat nearby enemies. As you play, you’ll gather new items and learn skills that’ll help you progress even further. You’ll learn a roll move for dodging attacks, as well as nab items like arrows, which you can use to defeat flying enemies or hit long-distance switches. You can also aim your arrows as well as upgrade them to magical arrows by charging up the firing button. Defeated enemies may drop fish, which can refill your health, or money which you can use to buy items in a shop in town. By collecting special ores, you’ll be able to upgrade your health, sword, and other abilities, too.

The game has some Metroid style elements to it, meaning you may have to backtrack with new items in tow so you can reach previously unreachable areas. Unfortunately the game is not quite as interesting as Metroid. The game gets pretty challenging and frustrating early on, and the graphics are a bit amateurish. Worst of all is the map, which doesn’t help at all. But if you like challenging 2-D adventures, you may want to give this a try anyway.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full
