{"id":16328,"date":"2017-05-01T00:01:17","date_gmt":"2017-05-01T00:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=16328"},"modified":"2017-04-02T21:04:00","modified_gmt":"2017-04-02T21:04:00","slug":"loot-rascals-ps4-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/01\/loot-rascals-ps4-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Loot Rascals (PS4, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/loot_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-16326\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/LOOT_BOX-141x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/LOOT_BOX-141x150.jpg 141w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/LOOT_BOX-283x300.jpg 283w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/LOOT_BOX.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 141px) 100vw, 141px\" \/><\/a>Loot Rascals is a space-themed, strategy board game that\u2019s got a style of its own.\u00a0 Your job as a spaceman is to save the robot head of your pal Big Barry from an interdimensional tentacled beast.\u00a0 But first you must escape from an artificial moon that the beast created.\u00a0 The game has a look that reminds me of Katamari Damacy with a bit of British humor thrown in.\u00a0 In fact I think I read they had an Adventure Time animator do some of the art for this game.\u00a0 Anyway you can download this game on PS4 and PC, but it\u2019s reviewed on PS4 here.<\/p>\n<p>Each map is laid out with hexagonal spaces, like a board game.\u00a0 The maps are randomly generated, or as the game calls them \u201cprocedurally generated,\u201d but I\u2019m not sure what the difference is.\u00a0 As you walk about the map, it changes from day to night.\u00a0 Monsters, aliens, and robots also roam about the map for you to fight.\u00a0 Some will attack first in the day and defend first at night, and vice versa.\u00a0 You want to try to land on the monsters when they defend first.\u00a0 When you land on a space with a monster, you\u2019ll trade blows until one of you is defeated.\u00a0 Sometimes monsters will drop cards.\u00a0 Equip these cards to increase your attack and defense, as well as give you other abilities.\u00a0 But you can only hold a limited amount of cards at a time, so you must use strategy to use what you need and what to discard.\u00a0 Cards can be sent to other players online as well.<\/p>\n<p>There are several different game modes.\u00a0 You can play the main story, or try daily map challenges or even do a practice map.\u00a0 Penalties for losing all your hit points are pretty severe, though.\u00a0 If a monster beats you, you\u2019ll start at the beginning of the map and it\u2019ll randomly generate again.\u00a0 Plus you\u2019ll lose all your collected cards, so it\u2019s like you\u2019re starting over again.\u00a0 At the beginning of the map is a dome that acts like your home base.\u00a0 Here you can trade cards for coins that you can use to regain health, or you can get tips or new cards, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>I had two main problems with this game.
