out, I get very curious. Disco Dodgeball Remix is a new downloadable game available for all the current home game consoles, but reviewed on PS4 here. So does it reach new dodgeball heights? You’ll just have to read on to find out!

Well, you won’t have to read too much further, because the answer is ‘not quite.’ It’s not a bad game, but it does play like a first-person shooter, and I’m just not accustomed to FPS game controls. You play as a silly one-wheeled robot and can customize its looks any way you want, such as color, outfit, hat, etc. You play in color changing arenas that look straight out of a TRON movie, or at least a laser tag stadium from the 80’s. The visuals in these areas are crisp and clean and almost hypnotic.

When you start, you’ll view the action from your robot’s eyes. You’ll want to find a disco ball as soon as you can. When you roll over it, you’ll automatically pick it up. Hold down the R2 button to build up power, and then release to throw. Try to aim at another robot, because if you hit it, you’ll gain a point, or win depending on what mode you choose. Just be careful not to get hit yourself. You can also hold and release the L2 button to jump, but it’s pretty useless since you can’t jump high enough to get anywhere.

There is a single player arcade mode with challenges, although the CPU robots are super hard. You can also play local and online multiplayer with lots of arenas and rules to choose from. I’d say this game is only good if you are an expert with FPS controls, and enjoy playing games online or with a bunch of people nearby.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17880" Factor:

Disco Dodgeball Remix is rated E-10 with an ESRB descriptor of Fantasy Violence. You throw disco balls at robots that explode when defeated, but that’s about as violent as it gets. Reading skill is helpful for the text, and younger players and gamers less experienced with FPS controls may have trouble playing.

Before Wii Sports came along, my top favorite video game sports title was Super Dodge Ball on the NES. So whenever I see a new
