still exist, and humans must eke out a living trying to avoid attacks. Luckily, Food Souls are there to help. They may look like ordinary humans, but they have the power to help prepare food and battle Fallen Angels, too (somehow). You play as an aspiring restaurant owner who must manage a group of food souls as you run an eating establishment in this restaurant sim/RPG battle hybrid. It’s free to play on mobile devices, but reviewed on iPad here.

After a brief tutorial, you start out in your new restaurant. You can assign your food souls to different jobs, like cooking and waiting on customers. All you really have to do is make sure you have enough ingredients to cook whatever recipes you’ve discovered. Sometimes a customer might trigger a battle or a story scene, but that’s about it. Gain ingredients by completing missions and winning battles.

The other part of the game are the RPG style battles. You don’t really have much control over what’s going on, as your Food Souls will fight automatically. You can tap on the screen to slow down an enemy’s attacks or whisk away minor foes occasionally, but that’s about it. So yeah, not very much interactivity in this game. Sometimes you’ll trigger story sections that play out like a visual novel, I only wish the text wasn’t so teeny tiny on the screen! Also, while there are tutorials, it basically just comes down to “Hey I know you don’t know what’s going on, but tap on these things and see what happens,” which sometimes doesn’t help you understand the game. While I do think some of the character designs and gameplay ideas are interesting, the lack of gameplay interaction kept me from being absorbed very long.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone
