{"id":18236,"date":"2018-09-10T00:01:13","date_gmt":"2018-09-10T00:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=18236"},"modified":"2018-08-27T14:20:54","modified_gmt":"2018-08-27T14:20:54","slug":"spectrum-ps4-switch-xbox-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/10\/spectrum-ps4-switch-xbox-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Spectrum (PS4, Switch, Xbox One)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/spectrum_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-18234\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_BOX-150x84.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_BOX-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Spectrum is an action maze game where you play as a blob with three eyes.\u00a0 You must \u2018swim\u2019 through the air and avoid certain colored blocks as you make your way to the exit portal.\u00a0 It\u2019s available to download on nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on PS4 here.<\/p>\n<p>Control is very easy.\u00a0 Press one button to jump and another to dash downward.\u00a0 You can jump and dash infinitely, so it\u2019s like you\u2019re \u2018swimming\u2019 through the air, if that makes any sense.\u00a0 You can touch white blocks, but if you touch a lightly colored block, you\u2019ll lose one unit of energy, represented by one of your \u2018eyes\u2019 on your blob (three in total).\u00a0 If you lose all of your eyes, you\u2019ll have to start the level over again.\u00a0 Be careful not to touch any dark colored blocks as they will destroy you instantly.<\/p>\n<p>Collect glowing white orbs to replenish one of your energy units.\u00a0 Sometimes you must grab a black orb to open a path, too.\u00a0 When you reach a portal at the end of a stage, you complete the level.\u00a0 Beat a level under a certain time, collect all the white orbs, and I\u2019m not sure what the last objective is but if you do all of them you\u2019ll earn a trophy for that level, signifying you\u2019ve completed it perfectly.\u00a0 Overall, the game reminds me of a PSOne title called Irritating Stick, where you had to make a stick travel through a maze without touching the sides (it was also based on a Japanese game show).<\/p>\n<p>Spectrum\u2019s an all right game, but it does have a few problems.\u00a0 It could use a few more modes.\u00a0 A two to four player split screen race mode would be perfect, and I\u2019m sure the game could handle it.\u00a0 Also, while the difficulty ramps up nicely and gets pretty hard halfway through, there are only four main worlds and four minus worlds (with ten small levels each), so content is a bit on the short side, too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/spectrum_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18235\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SPECTRUM_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you lose all your energy or touch a dangerous block, your blob will explode, but that\u2019s about as violent as it gets.\u00a0\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.\u00a0 Younger gamers may get frustrated at the later, more difficult levels.\u00a0 Spectrum is rated E for Everyone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spectrum is an action maze game where you play as a blob with three eyes.\u00a0 You must \u2018swim\u2019 through the air and avoid certain colored blocks as you make your way to the exit portal.\u00a0 It\u2019s available to download on nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on PS4 here.
