{"id":18777,"date":"2019-02-18T00:01:57","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T00:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=18777"},"modified":"2019-01-29T10:54:37","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T10:54:37","slug":"coffee-crisis-switch-ps4-xbox-one-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/18\/coffee-crisis-switch-ps4-xbox-one-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Coffee Crisis (Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/coffee_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-18775\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_BOX-150x144.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_BOX-150x144.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Aliens are invading Earth and stealing heavy metal music, coffee, and WiFi!\u00a0 It\u2019s up to two coffee baristas, Nick and Ashley, to stop them in this 2-D classic styled side-scrolling beat \u2018em up.\u00a0 It\u2019s available to download on nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on Switch here.<\/p>\n<p>Gameplay is pretty typical of this genre.\u00a0 You can choose to be Nick or Ashley or play local two player co-op.\u00a0 Punch, jump, kick, and use special attacks on the aliens and bosses.\u00a0 You can pick up weapons as well as modifiers that can either power you up or hinder you.\u00a0 Some make the screen do weird things like make it look like a CRT monitor.\u00a0 It\u2019s kind of strange and doesn\u2019t really enhance the gameplay much, though.\u00a0 The game features a heavy metal soundtrack and 16-bit graphics.\u00a0 And that\u2019s pretty much it, really.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately as beat \u2018em\u00a0 ups go, I didn\u2019t really like this one as much.\u00a0 Hit detection felt a little off, and even on the Easy setting the game is way too hard and I didn\u2019t get very far.\u00a0 But the worst offender is that if you want to continue where you left off, you have to use a password.\u00a0 I\u2019m all for using classic game staples, but some things, like passwords, just need to go away.\u00a0 There\u2019s no excuse for that in this day and age.\u00a0 I think I know why they did that, though.\u00a0 Originally, Coffee Crisis was a Kickstarter Sega Genesis game cartridge.\u00a0 So that\u2019s probably why it used passwords.\u00a0 I guess you could look up the passwords on the internet and beat the game faster that way, though.\u00a0 Even so, I can think of a lot better beat \u2018em ups to play than this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/coffee_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18776\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/COFFEE_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coffee Crisis is rated T for Teen with ESRB descriptors of Blood, Crude Humor, Mild Language, Use of Alcohol, and Violence.\u00a0 Honestly I didn\u2019t really notice much of the descriptors in the game, as they are all used sparingly.\u00a0 The worst offender is the violence.\u00a0 Even though they\u2019re aliens, I felt kind of bad beating up the alien grandmas and grandpas attacking me with their canes and walkers!\u00a0 Younger players may find this game too difficult, and I can think of much better beat \u2018em ups to play with your kids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aliens are invading Earth and stealing heavy metal music, coffee, and WiFi!\u00a0 It\u2019s up to two coffee baristas, Nick and Ashley, to stop them in this 2-D classic styled side-scrolling beat \u2018em up.\u00a0 It\u2019s available to download on nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on Switch here.
