{"id":18786,"date":"2019-02-22T00:01:48","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T00:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=18786"},"modified":"2019-01-31T22:35:25","modified_gmt":"2019-01-31T22:35:25","slug":"gris-switch-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/22\/gris-switch-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"GRIS (Switch, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/gris_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-18780\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_BOX-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_BOX-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_BOX.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>You know, I\u2019m not sure I\u2019ll be able to describe the story of GRIS very well.\u00a0 Heck, I don\u2019t even know why it has that title.\u00a0 GRIS is a very artistic game and probably has lots of deeper meanings, but I guess I don\u2019t catch onto those very well.\u00a0 I mean, when I played Journey, I just thought it was a game about a ketchup bottle walking in the desert.\u00a0 GRIS is a bit like Journey except that it\u2019s a LOT better, as it has more actual gameplay behind it.\u00a0 Anyway, in the game you are a young woman who wakes up on a broken statue of a hand, and apparently you have lost your voice.\u00a0 So now you must explore beautiful hand drawn ruins, deep forests, and underwater caves because\u2026well it beats just standing there.\u00a0 GRIS is a 2-D platformer with light puzzle elements and is available to download on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.<\/p>\n<p>When you start out, the world looks pretty drab.\u00a0 But as you play, you\u2019ll unlock colors that add to the landscape, so you\u2019ll see red sand, green trees, blue ice caves, and more as you play and unlock different colors.\u00a0 Sometimes you must collect stars that can be made into bridge constellations for you to pass.\u00a0 Every so often, you\u2019ll learn a new skill to help you solve puzzles and bypass obstacles.\u00a0 You\u2019ll learn to turn into a rock, great for breaking cracked floors and giving yourself some weight against winds.\u00a0 You\u2019ll also learn how to double jump and glide, swim, and much more.\u00a0 You\u2019ll use these skills to solve clever puzzles that never become too hard, nor too easy either.\u00a0 You can also collect other little circle things for an added challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The game looks great.\u00a0 It kind of reminds me of what you might see at an artsy animation festival.\u00a0 The only problems I had with this game are pretty minor.\u00a0 It\u2019s a bit short, but that also means that it doesn\u2019t overstay its welcome and it kept my interest all the way through to the end, which is something many games don\u2019t do for me anymore.\u00a0 And sometimes when the camera zoomed out, it was hard to see my character as well.\u00a0 And I do wish they would let you pause during the cutscenes.\u00a0 Normally that wouldn\u2019t be a problem, but just as I beat the game, the doorbell rang and I had to answer it, so I had to play that last bit of the game again to see the ending.\u00a0 So game developers, let us pause during those cutscenes, OK?\u00a0 Anyway, if you like artsy fartsy puzzle platformer games, GRIS is a really, really good one to get.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/gris_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18781\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GRIS_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 Although a few of the creatures, like a giant bird and eel, might be a little scary to young kids.\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.
