{"id":19020,"date":"2019-05-13T00:01:32","date_gmt":"2019-05-13T00:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=19020"},"modified":"2019-04-21T12:25:00","modified_gmt":"2019-04-21T12:25:00","slug":"feather-switch-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/13\/feather-switch-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Feather (Switch, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/feather_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-19015\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_BOX-150x57.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"57\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_BOX-150x57.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The joy of flight is always a highlight in many a video game.\u00a0 Remember when you first got an airship in a Final Fantasy game?\u00a0 Or the wing cap in Mario 64?\u00a0 How about flying with feathers in Banjo-Kazooie?\u00a0 Speaking of feathers, here\u2019s a game that\u2019s nothing but flying as a bird, as you soar around an island in a stress-free environment.\u00a0 Feather is available to download on Switch and PC, but reviewed on the former here.<\/p>\n<p>Controls are pretty easy to figure out, and they give you a tutorial at the beginning of the game and you can review it at any time in case you forget.\u00a0 Steer with the analog stick and roll left and right with the shoulder buttons.\u00a0 The L2 and R2 shoulder buttons let you speed up and slow down, and the X button lets you reverse direction.\u00a0 The Y button is for tweeting, and when you press it the bird will pull out its cell phone and start texting!\u00a0 Just kidding!\u00a0 The bird just tweets like a real bird does.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s pretty much it.\u00a0 There are no goals or objectives, just messing around flying and seeing the island.\u00a0 The cartoony graphics are nice, but without any goals, there really isn\u2019t much to do.\u00a0 Scattered about the island are rings that, when you fly through them, will change the music.\u00a0 But that\u2019s pretty much it.\u00a0 They could\u2019ve added some objectives to make it feel more like a game, and still be stress free, I think.\u00a0 How about flying through ring races, or hidden items around the island, or letting you feed baby birds?\u00a0 Maybe they could\u2019ve added other birds with different flight abilities you could play as?\u00a0 Without all that kind of stuff, Feather doesn\u2019t have much staying power otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/feather_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19016\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/FEATHER_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 If you steer your bird into a wall or other danger, the screen will turn black and white and rewind a little bit and you can try again.\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for the text, but not necessary just to play.
