{"id":19095,"date":"2019-06-07T00:01:28","date_gmt":"2019-06-07T00:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=19095"},"modified":"2019-05-28T01:25:34","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T01:25:34","slug":"nintendo-labo-vr-kit-elephant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/07\/nintendo-labo-vr-kit-elephant\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo Labo VR Kit: Elephant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=19082\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19082\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-19082\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT-134x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT-134x150.jpg 134w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT-267x300.jpg 267w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 134px) 100vw, 134px\" \/><\/a>This is probably the weirdest of the bunch.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t let you really be an elephant though.\u00a0 This one just lets you play games where you have to manipulate and rotate objects in 3-D space, and the apparatus they have you build to do that just kind of looks like an elephant.\u00a0 Maybe some of the Labo makers are Alabama fans?\u00a0 Roll Tide!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a bigger picture of the \u2018elephant.\u2019\u00a0 You put both JoyCons in compartments connected by rubber bands.\u00a0 The JoyCons use each others\u2019 gyroscopes and motion detectors to tell where you are moving and rotating.\u00a0 The controller at the end of the \u2018trunk\u2019 also uses the IR camera to read reflective marker stickers on the \u2018face\u2019 to further help the orientation. \u00a0They even have you build a part at the end of the trunk that\u2019s like a trigger so you can push a button, and the elephant ears on the \u2018face\u2019 are just for show.\u00a0 You put the goggles on the back of the face to play.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/elephant\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19082\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"561\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT-134x150.jpg 134w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/ELEPHANT-267x300.jpg 267w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had two problems with the Elephant.\u00a0 One, it feels a little flimsier than other Labo toys you build, mainly because of the extensive use of rubber bands.\u00a0 The other problem I had is more personal and probably won\u2019t affect too many people reading this.\u00a0 You see, I\u2019ve been blind in my left eye since birth, and can\u2019t see 3-D effects.\u00a0 Usually I can play most VR games fairly well, because they don\u2019t require precise use of depth perception.\u00a0 Well this one does, so I had a harder time with it.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, let\u2019s take a look at the games you can play.\u00a0 The first is Marble Run.\u00a0 You must use slides, gutters, and other objects and rotate them and move them around so a marble has a safe path to roll into a ring.\u00a0 It\u2019s pretty fun, even if I had a hard time playing it.\u00a0 You can also design your own courses, so that was neat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/marblerun\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19094\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/MARBLERUN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/MARBLERUN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/MARBLERUN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/MARBLERUN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next game is Doodle, although it\u2019s not much of a game and more of an art application.\u00a0 You can paint things in 3-D space.\u00a0 The screenshot below is something I made myself.\u00a0 Because of my vision, though, I couldn\u2019t do anything more complicated than that.\u00a0 You could also play a two player game that was like Pictionary.\u00a0 If it\u2019s anything like the Pictionary style game in Game &amp;
