(PS4, Switch, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/river_box-3\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-19545\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_BOX-150x76.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_BOX-150x76.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>In Japan there is a popular series of video games that has gone back since the 80s starring a character named Kunio-kun.\u00a0 Kunio is a hot-blooded high school student who sometimes gets into fights and trouble, but always stands up for his friends and against bullies.\u00a0 Kunio also likes to play sports and when he\u2019s not beating up baddies, he\u2019s competing in events like soccer or dodgeball.\u00a0 Some of Kunio\u2019s games have made it to the US under name or graphical changes.\u00a0 If you\u2019ve ever played a game like Renegade, River City Ransom, Crash N the Boyz Street Challenge, or Super Dodge Ball, then you\u2019ve played a Kunio game!\u00a0 Now all the characters in the Kunio series are gearing up for a four-player free-for-all martial arts tournament with River City Melee Mach!!\u00a0 It\u2019s available to download on PS4, Switch, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.<\/p>\n<p>Gameplay is pretty simple.\u00a0 Four players can jump, kick, and punch to attack each other and can combine button presses for special moves.\u00a0 You can pick up items and other players and toss them around, too!\u00a0 Each time you land a hit you get points.\u00a0 Whoever has the most points at the end of the round, wins.\u00a0 But make sure you don\u2019t run out of energy because then you\u2019re out of the round and can\u2019t earn any more points.\u00a0 You can choose various teams with different players on each, with more than a 100 characters total!\u00a0 They really went all out on the fan service with the characters you can play as.\u00a0 All the high schools and gangs from River City and Renegade, the spinoff characters from feudal Japan, the Double Dragon brothers, even Kunio and his soccer and dodge ball teams are playable!\u00a0 All the characters are presented in their 8-bit River City Ransom style sprites, too.<\/p>\n<p>The story mode is for single players and is all about the teams and high schools getting invitations to a free-for-all martial arts tournament, but some of these competitors are being secretly attacked so you\u2019ve got to find out why.\u00a0 Free Play mode lets you play a round against local players or the CPU.\u00a0 And finally you can even play online.\u00a0 Only main problem I had with this game is that it\u2019s just way too hard and chaotic, even on the Easy settings.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t even get past the first level in Story Mode, and I\u2019ve beaten a few of the other games in the franchise, so I think I know what I\u2019m doing.\u00a0 I wish they would just make another Super Dodge Ball game.\u00a0 Before Wii Sports came along, Super Dodge Ball was my favorite sports video game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/river_screen-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19546\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/RIVER_SCREEN-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>River City Melee Mach!!
