{"id":20462,"date":"2020-09-23T00:01:50","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T00:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=20462"},"modified":"2020-09-06T12:28:35","modified_gmt":"2020-09-06T12:28:35","slug":"ninjala-switch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2020\/09\/23\/ninjala-switch\/","title":{"rendered":"Ninjala (Switch)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/ninjala_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-20458\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_BOX-150x77.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"77\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_BOX-150x77.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>There\u2019s a special kind of bubblegum that gives kids ninja powers when they chew it.\u00a0 Be one of those gum chewing ninja kids in Ninjala, a free-to-play online multiplayer battle game for Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n<p>As a ninja kid, you can swing your cartoony weapon of choice at other players, as well as jump and double jump.\u00a0 You can also run up walls and change into an everyday object to hide from others.\u00a0 By holding down the L button, you can blow a gum bubble.\u00a0 With a bubble blown, you can do several things.\u00a0 You can dash, or send the bubble out to attack long distance players.\u00a0 When you land enough blows and charge up your bubble power, you can even upgrade your weapon and make it bigger and stronger.<\/p>\n<p>When you start a match, you are placed in an urban setting with about six other players.\u00a0 You score points in one of two ways.\u00a0 First is by destorying drones, and the second is attacking and defeating other players.\u00a0 At the end of a timed round, extra points are awarded for whoever destroyed the most drones and who defeated the most players.\u00a0 Then whoever has the most points, wins the round.\u00a0 You can clearly tell this game was influenced by Splatoon, with its brightly colored urban settings and customizable kid characters.<\/p>\n<p>There are two main problems I had with the game, though.\u00a0 One is the free-to-play nature bogs down the game.\u00a0 While you can unlock things by playing and leveling up, most of the good stuff, like customizable outfits for your character and story mode chapters you must buy with real money.\u00a0 And the times I played online I was only offered one map and it wasn\u2019t very interesting, and while Splatoon is fun even when you lose, it didn\u2019t feel as rewarding here.<\/p>\n<p>The other main problem I had was the game was SO laggy.\u00a0 I never felt like I had control of my character when attacking others.\u00a0 Sometimes I would just keep pressing the attack button and nothing would ever happen, and then all of a sudden I was defeated and respawning again.\u00a0 This may not be the game\u2019s fault, as Nintendo\u2019s online service is extremely crappy, but it still kept me from staying interested.\u00a0 I know I\u2019m being overly harsh on a free-to-play game, as it still has pretty good production values (albeit not very original) and may still be worth a try.\u00a0 But if I\u2019m going to play an online battle game like this, I\u2019d rather just play Splatoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/ninjala_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20459\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/NINJALA_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ninjala is rated E-10 with an ESRB descriptor of Fantasy Violence.\u00a0 You can smack other players with silly weapons like giant foam bats and yo-yos shaped like donuts, and defeated players just splat into the TV screen, but everyone\u2019s ready for action again after a few seconds.\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for the text, and parental supervision is highly recommended for the in-game purchases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a special kind of bubblegum that gives kids ninja powers when they chew it.\u00a0 Be one of those gum chewing ninja kids in Ninjala, a free-to-play online multiplayer battle game for Nintendo Switch.
