{"id":20938,"date":"2021-03-12T00:01:48","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T00:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=20938"},"modified":"2021-02-12T14:13:36","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T14:13:36","slug":"pac-man-geo-mobile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2021\/03\/12\/pac-man-geo-mobile\/","title":{"rendered":"Pac-Man Geo (Mobile)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/pacgeo_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20936 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/PACGEO_BOX.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a>Remember a few years ago when Google Maps let you play Pac-Man using the road maps as mazes?\u00a0 Well now they\u2019ve made a whole game out of that with Pac-Man Geo!\u00a0 It\u2019s available for free on mobile devices, but reviewed on iPhone here.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing you do is pick a name for your profile.\u00a0 The classic Namco fan in me liked that the default names were of other Namco characters like Dig Dug, Susumu, Valkyrie, Mappy, and more!\u00a0 I thought this game would be more like Pok\u00e9mon GO where you can just do maps in your area.\u00a0 But nope, you can choose anywhere in the world to make mazes out of maps, so you pretty much get an endless supply of mazes.\u00a0 Just pick a continent and zoom in until you can see roads and a square pops up to section off your maze.<\/p>\n<p>Then you just play Pac-Man on the maze!\u00a0 Eat all the dots and avoid the ghosts, and nab power pellets and bonus fruit.\u00a0 Roads that go outside the square border become warp tunnels, and you get three lives to clear the maze.\u00a0 But the ghosts aren\u2019t the real enemy of this game.\u00a0 You also have a time limit, so if your maze has a lot of complicated roads, you may have trouble completing it!\u00a0 You control Pac-Man by sliding your thumb on the touch screen.\u00a0 Unfortunately the play control isn\u2019t very good, especially when your maze has roads with weird turns and such.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes when you complete mazes, you can get treasures.\u00a0 You can\u2019t see them at first, but you can use a limited amount of radars to find treasures on the maps.\u00a0 These could be anything from extra money you can use at the shops, to collectables that don\u2019t really do anything but sit there in your menu.\u00a0 In the shop you can buy avatars that give Pac-Man special skills when equipped, like extra speed or more time.\u00a0 But the really good stuff in the shop you have to spend real money on.\u00a0 There are also events where you can play mazes in different parts of the world, and try to get as far as you can.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the bad controls, the only other big problem I had was the constant pop-up ads for other games.\u00a0 Because of that, I kind of lost interest in it.\u00a0 Which is sad, because anyone who knows me, they know Pac-Man is my all time favorite video game and game character of all time.\u00a0 I think Pac-Man Geo is a neat idea, but really more of a novelty than an actual game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/pacgeo_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20937\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/PACGEO_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/PACGEO_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/PACGEO_SCREEN-188x300.jpg 188w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/PACGEO_SCREEN-94x150.jpg 94w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aside from chomping on those ghosts, Pac-Man Geo is pretty non-violent.\u00a0 Pac-Man was a big part of my childhood as an 80\u2019s kid, and I turned out OK anyway.\u00a0 The game uses some map reading and geography skills, so it might be considered somewhat educational as well.\u00a0 You can\u2019t really share your location directly, but you can share map mazes with other players that might reveal where you live and such, so I\u2019d still be careful with letting young kids play it for that reason.\u00a0 But I might also be a little bit too paranoid.\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for the text, and parental supervision is also recommended for the in-game ads and purchases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember a few years ago when Google Maps let you play Pac-Man using the road maps as mazes?\u00a0 Well now they\u2019ve made a whole game out of that with Pac-Man Geo!\u00a0 It\u2019s available for free on mobile devices, but reviewed on iPhone here.
