sizes="auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px" />Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a 2-D one-on-one fighting game with anime styled characters. Most of them are girls, but there are a few guys in there. Each one gets a magical weapon from an old man and they battle each other with them in the Story Mode. There are more than a dozen fighters in all, and include a maid café waitress, robot girl, shrine maiden, and more. It’s available on most current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

The game plays like any other one-on-one fighter. Use joystick and button combinations to perform special moves and whittle your opponent’s energy bar down to zero to win. There are lots of modes. Story Mode lets you play through each characters’ plot path. There are lots of text, but it’s all fully voiced in English or Japanese, so it’s nice to see they went the extra mile. You can also skip the text if you like, which is what I did most of the time. You can also do quick matches in single player, go online, do Vs. matches against the CPU or another player, or practice your moves in Training. You can also view records and artwork you’ve unlocked, read on how to play, and toggle options.

The game’s problems are pretty minor. The backgrounds are bland compared to the cartoony character graphics, and there’s just not much to separate this one from all the other fighters out there. But I do like that there are selectable difficulty modes so even I could beat it. So if you can’t get enough one-on-one fighting games, here’s another one for ya!

<img characters has a bandaged hand with blood stains on it, and some of the female characters wear slightly revealing outfits. All the rest of the descriptors are in the text
