{"id":22537,"date":"2022-08-31T00:01:12","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T00:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=22537"},"modified":"2022-08-13T12:45:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-13T12:45:01","slug":"sofiya-and-the-ancient-clan-ps4-ps5-switch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/31\/sofiya-and-the-ancient-clan-ps4-ps5-switch\/","title":{"rendered":"Sofiya and the Ancient Clan (PS4, PS5, Switch)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/sofyia_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-22529\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_BOX-101x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"101\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_BOX-101x150.jpg 101w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_BOX-202x300.jpg 202w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 101px) 100vw, 101px\" \/><\/a>You are Sofiya, a cute pink haired witch out to save the day in this 2D side scrolling 16-bit styled platformer.\u00a0 Run, double jump, and use magic blasts to defeat enemies in this game available on PlayStation consoles and Switch, but reviewed on PS4 here.<\/p>\n<p>Controls are super simple.\u00a0 Move left and right with the control stick, jump and double jump with the X button, and fire magic blasts with the square button.\u00a0 One thing the game doesn\u2019t tell you is that to pick up health and magic refills, you must press down over them.\u00a0 Sometimes you must flip switches to open paths, but most of the time the game is pretty straightforward.<\/p>\n<p>I do like the 16-bit styled graphics and ActRaiser-like music, and the main character looks cool.\u00a0 But the rest of the game has a whole laundry list of problems.\u00a0 If you die, you must start at the beginning of the area, which can be tedious if there are a lot of switches and enemies to deal with.\u00a0 There are a lot of blind jumps into instant death spikes or pits, and gameplay is slow and dull.\u00a0 Most enemies just walk back and forth and don\u2019t even attack you (except for the bats).\u00a0 It\u2019s just not that fun.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/sofyia_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22530\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SOFYIA_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sofiya and the Ancient Clan is rated M for Mature with ESRB descriptors of Violence, Blood, Sexual Content, Nudity, and Strong Language.\u00a0 The main part of the game isn\u2019t that bad.\u00a0 You do fire magic blasts at enemies who just fade away when defeated, and you just fall over if you lose your energy.\u00a0 But you can unlock pictures in a gallery mode, and each one is more naughty than the last.\u00a0 And it\u2019s not even that great of artwork either, like the bottom of the barrel DeviantArt type stuff.\u00a0 They could\u2019ve taken this part out of the game and had a much lower ESRB rating.\u00a0 Definitely not for kids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You are Sofiya, a cute pink haired witch out to save the day in this 2D side scrolling 16-bit styled platformer.\u00a0 Run, double jump, and use magic blasts to defeat enemies in this game available on PlayStation consoles and Switch, but reviewed on PS4 here.
