(Switch, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/niko_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-23020\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_BOX-150x89.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"89\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_BOX-150x89.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Niko is a girl who has run away from home but now she needs a job.\u00a0 She applies for a position as a \u201cProfessional Friend\u201d and her boss is a small frog with a necktie.\u00a0 Together they\u2019ll travel to little areas and help out others to earn enough money to travel to the next location in this 3D platformer.\u00a0 The trailer and description say it\u2019s a game for \u2018tired people,\u2019 but I don\u2019t know what that means.\u00a0 The game was made by the same folks who did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2018\/01\/02\/a-hat-in-time-ps4-xbox-one-pc\/\"><strong>A Hat in Time<\/strong><\/a>, but I actually think I enjoyed this game more.\u00a0 It\u2019s available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.<\/p>\n<p>Niko can run and jump, as well as wall jump and dive to navigate the 3D areas.\u00a0 The characters are presented in a flat cutout look, similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2022\/09\/21\/tinykin-ps4-ps5-switch-xbox-one-x-s-pc\/\"><strong>Tinykin<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 You\u2019ll travel to levels like a public pool, bath house, campsite, and more.\u00a0 In these levels you can find and talk to animals who need your help.\u00a0 You\u2019ll do pretty much the same thing in each level.\u00a0 One friend wants you to collect a certain amount of bugs, another one wants to you to play volleyball and beat their score, another one wants you to help them fish, etc.\u00a0 When you help out someone, you\u2019ll earn a coin.\u00a0 Earn enough coins and you can use the train to travel to the next area.\u00a0 The levels have all sorts of collectables scattered about, like bugs, cassette tapes, and apples.\u00a0 You can trade the cassette tapes to certain characters to get more coins, and if you have enough apples near the end of the game, you can learn a special move that seemed useless to me.\u00a0 And in the loading screens and wherever you can sit down, you can pull out a virtual pet key chain and play with that.\u00a0 And if you don\u2019t know who to help, your boss frog sits at the beginning of every level to give you a hint.<\/p>\n<p>The game had a few problems, though.\u00a0 It was hard to judge jumps and nab collectables since everything is flat, but luckily the game is pretty easy.\u00a0 It\u2019s also a bit buggy, as I got stuck in rocks a couple of times and another time the game thought I was in water all the time and I could constantly swim in air.\u00a0 That was kind of neat, though.\u00a0 Since you do the same things in each level, it can get repetitive at times.\u00a0 The game is also a bit short, as I was able to beat the main game in less than a week playing casually.\u00a0 Some of the coins you must collect can be pretty frustrating, but luckily you only need a little more than half to beat the game, and there is a billboard in every level telling you what you can get.\u00a0 Getting all the coins adds some replay value and if you get them all you\u2019ll be Employee of the Month!\u00a0 But despite these problems, I played the main game all the way through and enjoyed it.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a fun and simple, light and breezy 3D platformer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/niko_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23021\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NIKO_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing too violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 There are no enemies to attack and you don\u2019t get a health bar or anything.\u00a0 Some of the phone messages you get on the train about your parents and some of the things other characters say may cause some unexpected discussions with your kids, but that\u2019s about it.\u00a0 Reading skill is a must for the text, and younger gamers may need help with the tougher quests.\u00a0 Here Comes Niko!
