(Switch, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/nescape_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-23046\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_BOX-106x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_BOX-106x150.jpg 106w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_BOX.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 106px) 100vw, 106px\" \/><\/a>Escape Rooms have been a popular form of entertainment lately.\u00a0 From what I understand, you and a group are \u2018trapped\u2019 in a room and must figure out puzzles in the room in a limited time to get out.\u00a0 Some of my friends and family said I would like these, but I dunno.\u00a0 Depends on how much they cost, I guess.\u00a0 But what if Escape Rooms came out during the 8-bit NES days?\u00a0 You know they\u2019d make a game about it on the Nintendo!\u00a0 And now they have with NEScape!\u00a0 It\u2019s a new, unlicensed game running on NES hardware.\u00a0 Originally you could only buy it as a cartridge, but now you can also play it on the Switch and PCs as well (reviewed on Switch here).<\/p>\n<p>The game controls like a typical point and click adventure.\u00a0 You move an eyeball shaped icon around the screen, and it changes to a finger or magnifying glass if you roll it over things.\u00a0 There are four walls in the room to scroll through, each with things like desk drawers and puzzles to interact with.\u00a0 You can also pick up items as well, and they\u2019ll appear in a box on the bottom of the screen.\u00a0 You can click on these items to use them, or even combine items as well.\u00a0 You have a full hour to solve all the puzzles in the room and escape!<\/p>\n<p>The main problem I had with the game is how obtuse some of the puzzles are.\u00a0 Kind of reminds me of Myst.\u00a0 Like, how are you supposed to know to use a hair dryer to melt a statue?\u00a0 Statues usually don\u2019t melt, and you can\u2019t tell it\u2019s meltable in the game.\u00a0 Also, the limitations of NES hardware also make solving puzzles overly difficult.\u00a0 The limited graphics make some things hard to see, and the fuzzy voice clips you need to hear are also hard to understand.\u00a0 I swear when they said, \u201cShiver\u201d it sounded to me like \u201cSewer.\u201d\u00a0 Luckily I had a guide with the press kit I got for this game, I don\u2019t know how anyone could finish this one without it.\u00a0 Also would\u2019ve been nice to have more than just one room to solve, or a way you could do a quicksave if you don\u2019t have a full hour to commit to this one.\u00a0 But even so, I still think it\u2019s neat they made a NES game out of this topic, and if you like Escape Rooms, you may want to check this one out as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/nescape_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23047\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_SCREEN.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_SCREEN-300x263.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NESCAPE_SCREEN-150x131.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 But because of the high level of puzzle solving involved, I\u2019d say this one\u2019s best for older gamers.\u00a0 NEScape!
