{"id":23371,"date":"2023-06-19T00:01:22","date_gmt":"2023-06-19T00:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=23371"},"modified":"2023-04-29T00:55:59","modified_gmt":"2023-04-29T00:55:59","slug":"the-adventures-of-poppe-switch-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2023\/06\/19\/the-adventures-of-poppe-switch-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"The Adventures of Poppe (Switch, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/poppe_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-23355\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_BOX-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_BOX-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Poppe is a brave hunter, but he\u2019s only about an inch tall!\u00a0 Help him travel through a giant sized world fighting bugs and leaping over chasms in this 2-D platformer adventure.\u00a0 The \u2018small character in a giant world\u2019 theme makes me think of other games like Blue\u2019s Journey or Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers.\u00a0 It\u2019s available on Switch and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.<\/p>\n<p>Poppe can run and jump, and use a knife to attack giant bugs.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to explore backyards full of tall grass as well as a giant house, jumping over obstacles and fighting giant bugs.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to backtrack and go though maze like areas to find items to help you progress.\u00a0 For instance, to cross a large chasm, you\u2019ll need to find a wooden plank so you can make your way across.\u00a0 Other pickups include health potions and extra lives, as well as items to increase your attack.<\/p>\n<p>I really like how this looks like an 8-bit NES game I would\u2019ve rented as a kid.\u00a0 But the rest of the game is littered with problems.\u00a0 The animations are fluid, but the downside is that you have to wait for Poppe to finish his animation to do things like duck and attack, so it\u2019s easy to get the timing off and get hit when you wanted to attack.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t help that your knife has such a short range.\u00a0 There are plenty of cheap hits and you can take fall damage.\u00a0 The game automatically saves when you reach a new area, but if you have already lost all your lives but one, you\u2019ll have a hard time of things if that\u2019s the last time it saved your game.\u00a0 Boss attacks are also nigh impossible to predict and a map would\u2019ve been super helpful.\u00a0 Because of all those quibbles, I lost interest in the game pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/poppe_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23356\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_SCREEN-300x167.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/POPPE_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Adventures of Poppe is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Fantasy Violence.
