{"id":23381,"date":"2023-07-31T00:01:02","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T00:01:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=23381"},"modified":"2023-06-23T13:31:23","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T13:31:23","slug":"catgotchi-switch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2023\/07\/31\/catgotchi-switch\/","title":{"rendered":"Catgotchi (Switch)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/cat_box-4\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-23357\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_BOX-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_BOX-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_BOX.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Travel back to the late 90s when keychain virtual pets were the big thing with Catgotchi on Switch.\u00a0 Take care of different breeds of cats by feeding and cleaning up after them, and playing games to make them happy.\u00a0 It even features black and white pixel graphics and sounds!<\/p>\n<p>The first thing you\u2019ll do is choose a breed of cat, its gender, and then you can name it.\u00a0 I\u2019m glad to see that the Russian Blue was one of the starter breeds, because I had a Russian Blue cat as a kid named Chekov who was one of the coolest pets I\u2019ve ever had.\u00a0 Of course all the cats look pretty much the same, the different breeds just make them have different pixel patterns on their fur.\u00a0 You can raise multiple kitties at the same time, and when you raise a certain number to adulthood, you\u2019ll unlock even more breeds!<\/p>\n<p>Similar to other key chain virtual pet games, you\u2019ll select what you can do with icons on the bottom screen.\u00a0 You can feed your cat milk, fish, or chicken, but they all fill up the meter the same.\u00a0 If you see a poop icon next to your cat (don\u2019t they use a litterbox?), press the water drop icon to clean it up.\u00a0 If your cat has a skull beside it, it\u2019s sick so you must give it a shot.\u00a0 Turn off the light to let it sleep to refill energy.\u00a0 You can even decorate the areas to the left and right of your cats with buildings and plants and other things.<\/p>\n<p>You can also play mini-games with your cat to increase the \u2018fun\u2019 meter.\u00a0 There are three games in all, and you\u2019ll unlock each one at the different ages: kitten, teen, and adult.\u00a0 The first game is similar to Simon, except not near as good because the pattern changes each time.\u00a0 The next one has you moving your cat left and right to destroy falling objects, similar to the Atari classic game Kaboom!\u00a0 Except here it\u2019s very easy and I only stopped when I was bored of it.\u00a0 And last is a treasure hunting game where you must remember increasingly larger squares of hidden fish.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s pretty much it.\u00a0 I guess the game does what it sets out to do.\u00a0 There\u2019s not much to it and this kind of game works better on a keychain you can pull out at any time.\u00a0 Even though the Switch is portable, it\u2019s a bit harder to do that with it.\u00a0 The game could\u2019ve used more standing animations to give it more character, too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/cat_screen-4\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23358\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CAT_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even think your cats can die in this one.\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.\u00a0 Catgotchi is rated E for Everyone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Travel back to the late 90s when keychain virtual pets were the big thing with Catgotchi on Switch.\u00a0 Take care of different breeds of cats by feeding and cleaning up after them, and playing games to make them happy.\u00a0 It even features black and white pixel graphics and sounds!
