{"id":24320,"date":"2024-03-18T00:01:08","date_gmt":"2024-03-18T00:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=24320"},"modified":"2024-02-19T13:46:51","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T13:46:51","slug":"froggie-a-retro-platformer-ps4-ps5-switch-xbox-one-x-s-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2024\/03\/18\/froggie-a-retro-platformer-ps4-ps5-switch-xbox-one-x-s-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Froggie: A Retro Platformer (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X\/S, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/froggie_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-24318\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_BOX-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_BOX-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_BOX.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Help a little frog defeat enemies and avoid obstacles and hop to the exit in this 2-D precision platformer.\u00a0 It features black and white graphics and reminds me of the old games I used to play on my Apple ][+ computer.\u00a0 It\u2019s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.<\/p>\n<p>Your frog can run and jump, as well as wall climb and wall jump similar to Mario or Mega Man X (but not nearly as well).\u00a0 You can stomp on some enemies, but avoid touching any other dangerous obstacle like spikes.\u00a0 If you get hit, you\u2019ll have to restart the level.\u00a0 Most of these precision platformers are just one screen, but here you might have multiple ones.\u00a0 Luckily you can get a checkpoint sometimes so you don\u2019t have to restart the entire level over when you die.<\/p>\n<p>Of course my main problem with these types of games is that they are just too darn difficult.\u00a0 Not even into level 20 and things got ridiculous for me.\u00a0 But there are other problems, too.\u00a0 The play control is slightly loose and slippery, not good for these types of games.\u00a0 And on stages with multiple screens, moving from one to another can be jarring, especially when there\u2019s an obstacle you can\u2019t see yet, or if you\u2019re making wall jumps in vertical sections.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/froggie_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24319\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/FROGGIE_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Froggie: A Retro Platformer is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Fantasy Violence.\u00a0 If you or an enemy gets hit, you just dissolve into pixels.\u00a0 Reading skill isn\u2019t needed, but younger gamers may find this one too difficult.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Help a little frog defeat enemies and avoid obstacles and hop to the exit in this 2-D precision platformer.\u00a0 It features black and white graphics and reminds me of the old games I used to play on my Apple ][+ computer.\u00a0 It\u2019s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
