\"\"<\/a>TopGolf is a chain of high tech golf driving ranges.\u00a0 You reserve a spot and can use these clubs (or bring your own), and you can scan your club to eject golf balls from a machine.\u00a0 Then you swing and hit the ball and try to get it to go into big holes on the playfield for points.\u00a0 I\u2019m not totally sure how it works, but there are trackers in the ball so you can see the ball\u2019s trajectory on a TV screen after you hit it.\u00a0 A dumb way to describe it is that it\u2019s kind of like bowling, but it\u2019s golf.\u00a0 A few years ago, they teamed up with Angry Birds for a special game option you could pick from.\u00a0 I even wrote about it here<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 And now they\u2019re doing the same thing with another video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog.\u00a0 They have a TopGolf in the same city where I live, so I had to try that out, and here\u2019s how it went.<\/p>\n

When you walk in, they had some TV monitors that advertised the new Sonic game mode.\u00a0 So I took pictures of those.<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s another one.\u00a0 I wish they had like a big standee or photo op display like they did with the Angry Birds game when it first came out, but they didn\u2019t.\u00a0 Oh well.<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s what the driving range looks like.\u00a0 I made sure to take a picture when they were advertising the Sonic game on it.<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s another one with a different picture on the billboard.\u00a0 Is it just me, or does anyone else think it\u2019s amazing that we now have billboards that are just giant screens that can change what\u2019s on them every so often.\u00a0 I just think it\u2019s so futuristic.\u00a0 Or maybe I\u2019m just easily amused.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the \u201ctitle screen\u201d for the Sonic game.\u00a0 The idea is that you must hit the ball as far as you can, and make it land in these circles on the field.\u00a0 Then on the screen you can watch the Sonic characters spin dash and hit trampolines on the field to jump up to paths to collect rings.\u00a0 You hit the ball four times, one for each Sonic character (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy).\u00a0 And whoever collects the most rings after two rounds, wins.\u00a0 It\u2019s even better for kids than the Angry Birds mode since it\u2019s so simple and short.\u00a0 And I asked the folks at the counter and they said they have special shorter clubs for little kids, too!<\/p>\n

One new thing I don\u2019t remember from last time I was there a few years ago was they now have these big monitors right where you swing so you can see the action right there.\u00a0 So the rest of the pictures are from that screen.\u00a0 Sorry if some of these are a bit glary.\u00a0 It was a bright sunshiny day when we went, so it was hard to take pictures of the screens. Here\u2019s one I took of Tails when they let you know it\u2019s your turn to hit with that character.\u00a0 Tails is my favorite Sonic character.\u00a0 I wish you could pick to play as one character here instead of all four in a row, but oh well.<\/p>\n

The first round you play on is Green Hill Zone, so here\u2019s a shot of that.<\/p>\n

After you collect rings on a path, you hit a red star ring and see a close up of that character.\u00a0 Here\u2019s Sonic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And Tails.<\/p>\n

After you collect rings with that character, they\u2019ll do their famous poses like how they do when you beat a level.\u00a0 Here\u2019s Sonic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And here\u2019s Tails.\u00a0 Aw, Tails, why did you have to blink when I took this picture!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t be Green Hill Zone without that famous loop!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Round two plays on Sky Sanctuary Zone.\u00a0 So here\u2019s a shot of that.\u00a0 I wish you could play on other zones, too.\u00a0 Like Casino Night, Chemical Plant, or Egg Carrier.\u00a0 But I guess they wanted to stick with the green golf field theme.<\/p>\n

After two rounds, the game tallies your score and whoever gets the most rings, wins.\u00a0 I won the first round so I had to take a picture of that.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t win the other games, though!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The game also gives little achievements to the players at the result screen.\u00a0 My brother Jeff thought this one was funny so here\u2019s a picture of that one.<\/p>\n

You can also rescue the little animals in the canisters so here\u2019s a screen of that.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s all for now!\u00a0 I\u2019m surprised there hasn\u2019t been a Sonic golf game on consoles.\u00a0 I read that at one point, there was a mobile Sonic Golf game but it\u2019s no longer available.\u00a0 What kinds of video game characters would you like to see at TopGolf?\u00a0 You would think they\u2019d have a Mario Golf mode but maybe licensing would be too expensive.\u00a0 Anyway, let me know what you think in the comments section.\u00a0 Later!\u00a0 –Cary<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
