\"\"<\/a>There are many toy lines that came out in the 80s when I was a kid that are still popular today.\u00a0 Some examples would be Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, My Little Pony, etc.\u00a0 Another example that I didn\u2019t know was still around until recently was Care Bears.\u00a0 That was huge when I was a kid, and they had lots of toys, plush, several cartoons, and even some movies!\u00a0 I think even I saw the first Care Bears movie when I was a kid (I remember it being surprisingly dark), and that movie even made more money than the Disney cartoon film it was competing against (granted that Disney movie was The Black Cauldron, but still).\u00a0 Now Care Bears are making a comeback and late last year I reviewed a 2D platformer starring the bunch<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 And now they have a new installment featuring an assortment of arcade style mini-games.\u00a0 Care Bears: Unlock the Magic is available on Switch and PlayStation consoles, but reviewed on Switch here.<\/p>\n

There are two modes of play.\u00a0 In Adventure Mode, you follow a trail of squares like a board game.\u00a0 Each square has a game for you to play, and if you pass it, you\u2019ll get a star.\u00a0 Get enough stars and you can progress to the next set of stages.\u00a0 And when you get enough, you can finish the mode (you need 70 stars).\u00a0 There is also a free play mode where you can play the games separately, and when you finish Adventure Mode, you can unlock harder versions of those games, too.\u00a0 When you pass certain milestones, you can also collect cards to put in an album.\u00a0 The mini-games are mostly based on classic arcade titles, so we\u2019ll go over those here.<\/p>\n

Conga<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is pretty much Snake.\u00a0 Guide the line of Care Bears around the dance floor collecting new bears and making the line longer.\u00a0 Just don\u2019t bump into obstacles on the dance floor or each other!<\/p>\n

Pass the Ball<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is pretty much Arkanoid or Breakout.\u00a0 Guide a Care Bear with a rainbow paddle at the bottom of the screen to bounce a ball and break blocks.\u00a0 Look out for falling power-ups, too.<\/p>\n

Care Bubbles<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aw, yeah!\u00a0 This one is just like Puzzle Bobble\/Bust-A-Move, one of my favorite puzzle games.\u00a0 It plays pretty decently, too.\u00a0 The whole game could\u2019ve just been this and I would\u2019ve been happy.\u00a0 Aim colored bubbles at the bottom of the screen and pop three of the same colored ones at the top. Just don\u2019t let them reach the bottom.<\/p>\n

Cloud Racer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drive the Care Bears\u2019 bus and collect hearts and avoid mud puddles.\u00a0 Collect enough hearts before time runs out to win.<\/p>\n

Cross the Rainbow<\/strong><\/p>\n

This one plays a lot like Frogger.\u00a0 A Care Bear on a pogo stick has to hop past obstacles and make it to the goal on time.<\/p>\n

Ball to the Hole<\/strong><\/p>\n

This one plays like a single player Pong.\u00a0 You control two bears with paddles on each side of the screen and try to bounce a ball to hit a switch to open a hole.\u00a0 Get the ball in the hole to win.<\/p>\n

Lost Whiffle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bedtime Bear is walking around a dock in a dazed stupor and can\u2019t stop.\u00a0 Help him avoid obstacles to find a critter in the maze that I\u2019m assuming is called a \u201cWhiffle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bouncy Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wish Bear is encased in a heart bubble with wings.\u00a0 Tap and hold down the button to fly and avoid rocks.\u00a0 If you hit one, you\u2019ll bounce around and slow down.\u00a0 Make it to the end in time to win.<\/p>\n

And those are all the games.\u00a0 My only problems with this one is that there are less than ten games and it\u2019s only single player.\u00a0 With some tweaking, they probably could\u2019ve made it multiplayer like the last game.\u00a0 But the games do control well and play decently, so if you have a young Care Bear fan around the house, they may still enjoy this one.<\/p>\n

Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nothing violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 If you lose a game, the bear may sometimes fall down on its bum and say \u201cNice Try,\u201d but that\u2019s it.\u00a0 Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.\u00a0 Care Bears: Unlock the Magic is rated E for Everyone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
