{"id":26154,"date":"2025-11-10T00:01:55","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T00:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/?p=26154"},"modified":"2025-10-17T02:10:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T02:10:25","slug":"kotenok-ps4-ps5-switch-xbox-one-x-s-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2025\/11\/10\/kotenok-ps4-ps5-switch-xbox-one-x-s-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Kotenok (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X\/S, PC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/kotenok_box\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-26155\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_BOX-131x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"131\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_BOX-131x150.jpg 131w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_BOX.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 131px) 100vw, 131px\" \/><\/a>Help a little kitten bypass obstacles in this 2D precision platformer (Kotenok is Russian for kitten, by the way).\u00a0 It\u2019s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.<\/p>\n<p>Your little kitten can run and double jump.\u00a0 Hop on enemies to defeat them, but avoid touching them as well as dangerous spikes.\u00a0 If you do you\u2019ll have to start the level over again.\u00a0 Sometimes you must bounce on mushrooms for extra height, or push blocks to make stepping stones for you to jump higher or cross safely.\u00a0 When you reach the checkered flag you finish the level.\u00a0 In some stages are hidden items for you to find.\u00a0 They don\u2019t do anything, but you can look at them in a menu option screen.<\/p>\n<p>My main problem with this game, aside from it getting too hard too quickly, is that hit detection is awful.\u00a0 Sometimes I would clearly stomp squarely on an enemy, only for it to count as a miss.\u00a0 And other times I swore I didn\u2019t brush up against spikes but I lost anyway.\u00a0 For a precision platformer, this one\u2019s not very precise.\u00a0 Checkpoints in some of the longer levels would\u2019ve been nice, too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/kotenok_screen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26156\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_SCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_SCREEN.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_SCREEN-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KOTENOK_SCREEN-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kid Factor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kotenok is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Fantasy Violence.\u00a0 Even though you can get hit by enemies and spikes, there is no animations or anything showing you got hurt, you just start over immediately after.\u00a0 Reading skill isn\u2019t needed, but younger gamers may find this one too difficult.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Help a little kitten bypass obstacles in this 2D precision platformer (Kotenok is Russian for kitten, by the way).\u00a0 It\u2019s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
