\"\"<\/a>Bluey is one of the most popular shows streaming right now, and it\u2019s no wonder why.\u00a0 It may be a preschool show on the surface, but it deals with subject matter that any age can enjoy.\u00a0 The show is about Blue Heeler dog Bluey, her sister Bingo, and their parents, family, and friends as they learn life lessons through imagination and play.\u00a0 I\u2019m a huge fan of the show, and we\u2019ve already seen plenty of Bluey on GamerDad.com with another video game review<\/strong><\/a>, a board game<\/strong><\/a>, and podcast<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 And now there is a second video game with a story written by Joe Brumm, the show\u2019s creator!\u00a0 In the game, Bluey and Bingo and their parents are amusing themselves inside on a rainy day by drawing and coloring pictures and making up stories.\u00a0 Bluey tells a story about a poor girl who can\u2019t afford to repair her cottage.\u00a0 So she calls upon Bingoose (her sister Bingo) to lay a golden egg for her.\u00a0 But their dad has the gold pen for the egg and won\u2019t give it back!\u00a0 Now Bluey and Bingoose must go on a quest in their imagination to get the gold pen.\u00a0 The game is presented with crayon styled drawings, similar to Bluey episodes like \u201cEscape\u201d and \u201cDragon.\u201d\u00a0 Gameplay is viewed in a top down perspective and you\u2019ll solve Zelda dungeon styled puzzles to progress.\u00a0 Bluey and the Quest for the Gold Pen is available on all current consoles and mobile devices, but reviewed on Switch 2 here.<\/p>\n

In the game you\u2019ll control Bluey and move her in all directions in a top down perspective.\u00a0 She has a magic wand in her imagination she can use to activate switches and use like a grappling hook.\u00a0 In some levels she\u2019ll be able to use other tools like gliders and jetpacks, or ride vehicles like a boat or bike.\u00a0 The levels, ten in all, are sprawling and I swear some seem bigger than classic Zelda overworlds.\u00a0 And even though this is a game for kids, it\u2019s not one you\u2019ll be able to blow through in a couple of hours.\u00a0 You\u2019ll use Bluey\u2019s skills to solve Zelda-like block pushing puzzles, obstacle courses, or find hidden items.\u00a0 In each stage you must collect enough goose food for Bingoose to eat so she can lay a silver egg with something in it to help you reach the next stage.\u00a0 And then you\u2019ll repeat the process in the next level.<\/p>\n

This game is great, but I did have some minor problems with it here and there.\u00a0 Mostly nitpicky stuff for sure.\u00a0 Some of the puzzles were tough enough that even I had trouble with them.\u00a0 Luckily you\u2019ll be able to get enough goose food in a stage so you don\u2019t have to do the most frustrating stuff if your kids are having trouble.\u00a0 Controls for some of the vehicles, like the bike, were hard to do, and the choppy framerate didn\u2019t help.\u00a0 It would\u2019ve been nice if a second player could\u2019ve controlled Bingoose or something, and even though the game has full voices in the cutscenes, the actual game doesn\u2019t, so reading skill is a must.\u00a0 Also when you find some goose food, the game says, \u201cYou found a goose food.\u201d\u00a0 I dunno, I think kids games should do better to have proper grammar, don\u2019t you?\u00a0 And finally, I do wish other characters could\u2019ve shown up in the game, like Bluey\u2019s cousin Muffin or the puppet Unicourse.\u00a0 But other than that, this is a way better Bluey game than the last one, and I\u2019d recommend it to any fan of the show.<\/p>\n

Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nothing violent or objectionable here.\u00a0 If you\u2019re OK with your kids watching the show, they\u2019ll be OK with the game.\u00a0 Reading skill is a must, and some of the puzzles can be tough, so I\u2019d recommend this one for older kid Bluey fans instead of preschool ones.\u00a0 Although younger players can still have fun here with a little help.\u00a0 Bluey\u2019s Quest for the Gold Pen is rated E for Everyone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
