\"gametap_logo.jpg\"Despite ranting <\/a>about not even having time to play current releases, I have been sneaking in little bits of various old and new games on GameTap on both the Mac & PC recently.\u00a0 This week they have also updated the client software – this isn’t such a huge deal on the PC, but on the Mac it is like an entirely new experience!\u00a0 Either way, if you haven’t tried the free version, it is time to crawl out from under that rock and tap into the classic fun!<\/p>\n

GameTap is simply amazing, and goes so far beyond what is offered through the console ‘arcade’ systems that it isn’t really fair to compare.\u00a0 Imagine getting to play all of the arcade classics as well as games for Commodore 64, Atari 2600, Intellivision, SEGA Genesis and Master System and Game Gear, NEO-GEO, Saturn, and more.\u00a0 Then imagine being able to also tap into games like Infernal or Clive Barker’s Jericho or Colin McCrea’s DiRT\u00a0 that would still cost you up to $50 in stores.\u00a0 And of course don’t forget that every new episode of Sam & Max launches on GameTap a week before the rest of the world can have at it.<\/p>\n

And all of this for no more than $10 a month!<\/p>\n

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday we visited my wife’s sister and her family – including her two kids home from college.\u00a0 We had loads of Wii fun (more on that later), but also had a blast with GameTap.\u00a0 We played almost exclusively arcade games – Xevious, Zaxxon, Tetris, 1941, Asteroids, Centipede, Contra, Defender, Dig Dug, and many, many more.\u00a0 It was one of those great connections across the generations – these were games that us ’40-somethings’ were playing in our teens, that their kids might have seen in some arcades when they were younger, and that our kids knew from handheld and console collections as well as … GameTap.<\/p>\n
