But luckily, brother Jeff stepped up to the rescue! Jeff has always loved playing cards. Even when he was little bitty, he would get out a regular deck of cards and make up his own games. I soon learned that when I played these cards games with him, there was only one rule that remained steadfast: ‘Jeff always wins!’ As he grew older, he enjoyed playing cards in video games like Pokemon TGC, Yu-Gi-Oh, the card mini-game in Final Fantasy 9, and SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash (I liked that last one as well). Even now, Jeff enjoys challenging his friends with Magic: The Gathering and the World of Warcraft card game. Jeff’s always game for cards, so when I showed him this free-to-play PC game, Sword Girls, he wrote a little mini-review!

Sword Girls is a free collectible trading card game which plays out of a web browser. It is reminiscent of the World of Warcraft trading card game, in which you have one “main character” card which has a set ability and many other cards used to back up and defend your main card. The game mechanics are very simple and easy to pick up, but it leaves a lack of strategy as your ally cards attack your opponent’s cards randomly, even if attacking a certain card would kill them.

The game is based around sort of an anime schoolgirl/maid or other anime stereotypes. Some of the cards are pretty scantily clad, for example the “Hot Springs” versions of the main characters. There is also some violence that can be seen on the cards but it’s usually just blood. –Jeff

Kid Factor:

Sword Girls isn’t rated by the ESRB but I would imagine it would get a T for Teen rating. It’s a card game, and I didn’t see any violence or blood while watching Jeff, although there is some blood on the artwork of some of the cards.
