{"id":871,"date":"2008-04-12T09:22:04","date_gmt":"2008-04-12T15:22:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamingwithchildren.com\/?p=871"},"modified":"2008-04-12T09:22:04","modified_gmt":"2008-04-12T15:22:04","slug":"review-viking-battle-for-asgard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/12\/review-viking-battle-for-asgard\/","title":{"rendered":"Review &#8211; Viking: Battle for Asgard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/viking_box.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-872\" style=\"float: left;\" title=\"viking_box\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/viking_box.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>The Norse goddess of death has resurrected an army of undead to conquer the Nordic lands.\u00a0 It\u2019s up to a lone Viking warrior named Skarin to free troops and wage battle and revenge on the hordes of evil Legion soldiers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Viking: Battle for Asgard for the Xbox 360 and PS3 is a hack and slash action-adventure game.\u00a0 Play as Skarin as he explores the land, mowing down any undead Vikings in his way.\u00a0 Players will scour the countryside looking for enemy encampments where they\u2019ll defeat any bad guys before freeing Viking troops.\u00a0 Sometimes the leader of these troops will request another task of you before joining your army.\u00a0 Luckily a handy map and warp points are always available so you usually know exactly where to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Power up your attacks with runes that give your weapons elemental powers like ice, fire, and lightning.\u00a0 Gather amulets to summon dragons to help you in the climatic battles at the end of each world.\u00a0 These big skirmishes are the highlight of the game and feature hundreds of enemy and ally soldiers going after each other, leaving you to locate and defeat the leaders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Graphics are decent enough, but unfortunately, Skarin is a rather lumbering, oafish Viking, making play control a little slower and less fluid than what it could be.\u00a0 Viking: Battle of Asgard isn\u2019t necessarily a bad game, but it is pretty mindless and repetitive.\u00a0 Gamers who enjoyed other mythological quests like Fable and God of War may also appreciate this more Nordic adventure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/viking_screen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-873\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" title=\"viking_screen\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/viking_screen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/viking_screen.jpg 320w, http:\/\/www.gamerdad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/viking_screen-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><strong>Kid Factor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Not for kids!
