Bethesda really hit their stride with their third Elder Scrollメs adventure-RPG, Morrowind. Morrowind, for Xbox and PC, gave gamers a giant world populated with monsters, treasures, and a myriad of factions all vying for power among the islands. The beauty of the world, and the open-ended gameplay, captivated gamers leading them to simply explore and experience, on top of solving the gameメs main plotline. An expansion pack called Tribunal added to the experience and refined the gameplay, and now Bethesda releases Bloodmoon. An expansion pack that unleashes Morrowindメs dark lunatic side.

Bloodmoon takes place on a new island. Solstheim is a Celtic themed island filled with ice, snow, barbarians, all kinds of new creatures and monsters, treasures, quests, and, well, werewolves. Like the hidden vampire feature in Morrowind (get bitten by one and you can portray one) the bite of a werewolf lets you run around the continent as a furry, feral, and frightening creature of the night. You can jump farther, run faster, and have beefed up hit points and attacks. As an extra bonus you can blend in by day, walking among your prey, while you continue your nightly depredations. If you get seen changing form, the people will ignore you by day. Playing a werewolf isnメt easy work, you have to kill a human every night or suffer damage come morning.

Solstheim, like the rest of the Tamriel islands and continents is a wonder to behold. Worth exploring just for the scenery. Itメs a snowy wooded land with rivers, streams, mountains, and thick coniferous forests. Thereメs an over-arching plot, one solvable as any of the gameメs races or as a werewolf. Seems the Empire is trying to tame a portion of this wild land for mining purposes and you can visit this strange land at any time. You donメt have to complete or play Tribunal, or even the original game, to visit. Itメs best you do however, things are pretty tough over here in the snow, especially when the wolvesbane blooms and the moon is full and bright.

Click to learn more about GamerDad's Kid Factor review section. Morrowind is a deep and involving game. It requires patience, motivation, and lots and lots, (and lots) of free time. It's the perfect summer game for a fantasy fan but may be too intense for some younger players. On the plus side, Morrowind is beautiful to explore and there's plenty to do without combat. On the minus, if you get infected by a werewolf, you've got to kill innocent people and hide the bodies. Not exactly what most parents want. Bethesda has hand crafted a compelling and unique fantasy world. One on par with the Ultimas and Might & Magics you may wax nostalgic about yourself. Kid Factor by Andrew Bub
