Thatメs going to leave a mark!
Burnout 3: Takedown by EA Games is a revolutionary game for the arcade racing genre. The action is intense! What makes Burnout 3 so special is not the racing really, but rather the crashing. After watching the opening movie from start to finish, I was amazed by the incredible crashes. The graphics and sound are top-notch and obviously done by devoted professionals. EA describes Burnout 3 as a モpure arcade adrenaline rush.ヤ They werenメt kidding. The game includes 17 different modes of play, but for this review Iメm only going to write about a few of them. Besides, most of the modes are variations of one kind or another of each other. The World Race Tour puts the player in various races around the world. USA, European, and Far Eastern tracks are included. The goal is to win as many of the races as possible in order to earn/unlock cars, trophies, and newspaper headlines. The racing is aggressive and high-speed. The cars show visible damage during the race like crumbled bumpers, shedding hoods, and broken lights. There is no モcar damage meter.ヤ The car is only put out of commission if it hits a wall or gets rammed off the road by a competitor. During the race turbo can be earned and used to pull slightly ahead or catch up. You gain turbo by being モrisky.ヤ Being risky, for example, means driving on the wrong side of the road, catching air, passing to close to other cars, or drifting corners. To expand your turbo even more you can take your competitors out. Speaking of taking competitors out, the new モAftertouchヤ system is brilliant. Aftertouch allows the player to have a little bit of control of your car after youメve been taken out. Say youメre in first place and you just got taken out by a competitor. You car is spinning through the air, but you are moving the wrong way to cause a pileup. Take control of your car using the thumb stick and guide your car ever so slightly into all your opponents, earning Aftertouch takedowns. The pileups can be hilarious! ![]() Crashes. I have never seen crashes like these in a game before. If crashing is your thing, try Crash Mode and get ready to stay up the rest of the night and feel like pooh the next morning. The goal in Crash Mode is to cause the most devastating, spectacular, and explosive crashes possible. Sound fun? It is. Each crash has a stunt feel and if you hit the right spot at the right moment, boom! The player earns cash based on the biggest wrecks. Causing 12 RVメs and 6 tankers to blow up is a massive amount of cash. Crash Mode just doesnメt get old. I found myself attempting the same crash over and over just to see if a tweak here, or a tweak there, would make a difference in the end. This mode is the treat of the game and worthy of being its own game. Road Rage is a race where the goal to knock as many competitors out of the race as possible. It is just as intense and funny as the World Tour. There is no better feeling than looking in your rear view mirror and seeing the racer you just took out flying across the road, hitting a pole, and flipping into oncoming traffic. Burnout 3 also includes online and multiplayer play. Four-player split screen is a recipe for hours of high-fives and giggles. Up to 6 players can race via the Internet. I must admit I was expecting something different with Burnout 3. My expectations were not that high so the joys I discovered while playing were magnified. The Crash Mode is worth the admission price. I hope EA decides to expand that mode and make a full-fledged game out of it. You will find no better aggressive, arcade racer. Burnout 3 is a fantastic game that will not tax your brain, but tickles your funny bone. Kid Factor: Burnout 3 features horrific crashes in the game. It is violence, but no pedestrians are hurt. I seriously doubt the crashes would cause any nightmares, but the cautious parent might want to play before they buy for their children. The title is rated T for Teen because of モmild violence.ヤ Reviewer Recommended Ages: 8+ Genre: ESRB Rating: T for Teen Reviewer: Doug Hanna Producer: EA Games Developer: EA Games Score: 5 out of 5 stars
