Before hungry yellow spheres and space aliens ムinvaded' arcades, game rooms were filled with pinball machinesラmechanical devices with flashing lights and sounds. It was just you, some metal balls, flippers, and a thing called gravity. Pinball in arcades may have become a thing of the past (very sad, indeed), but you can still relive it with Pinball Hall of Fame for PS2.

Play 7 pinball tables spanning 5 decades from pinball maker Gottlieb. Ace High (1957), Central Park (1966), Big Shot (1974), Genie (1979), Black Hole (1981), Victory (1987), and Tee'd Off (1993) are the tables recreated here. The interface in which you play them is really neat. It's set up like you're inside a vintage carnival arcade. It even has arcade background noises as you play the tables. I swear I can hear sound effects from Joust and Missile Commandナand is that a Q*bert machine over in the corner? You can also view history and promotional ad flyers for each pinball table. There is a clearly understandable walkthrough with spoken voices and arrows explaining the rules, goals, and highlights of each table. Finally, you can unlock secrets by completing certain required goals, but they're really hard!

The bright, 3-D graphics really make the pinball games leap out at you, but the camera tends to follow the ball around and you never get a full view of the table. This makes it a bit hard to see what is happening sometimes, especially when the ball is rolling around really fast. Play control is simple to learn (it's pinball after all). The tables may not be as fun as the Pro Pinball video game series, but this game is still a steal at less than 20 bucks.

Click to learn more about GamerDad's Kid Factor review section. It's pinball. That means no violence, no questionable content, just easy and accessible gameplay. Perfect for anyone in the family, although I imagine some kids who are used to the more flashy and complex games of today may not appreciate pinball games as much.
