Around every corner there was something fun and special to do. NBA Street V3 is full of new features and events that will keep you hoopin' it up into the middle of the night.

The coolest addition to this year's version of street hoops is the trick stick. The trick stick enables the player to perform various moves with the ultimate goal being to dunk the ball in the most creative and outlandish ways possible. Ultimately, the trick stick gives the player full control of the action. Combinations can be performed using the trick stick to string together 3 or 4 crazy, stunt-like moves while slamming the ball in your opponent's face. While it does take time to master the new trick stick, it is well worth the time and effort to see some of the coolest dunks ever placed in a video game.

After practicing and learning all the new ways to embarrass your opponent it is time to take the game to a new level. The normal Pick Up Game (a quick game) is available to play at anytime. The meat of the game, though, is the Street Challenge. In the Street Challenge you can create a customized character, pick some teammates, and start challenging the rest of the country. By winning 3 on 3 contests, a dunk contest, or a special event the team earns reputation points that can be spent on a variety of hoop-related goods and players. After winning a game you get to pick one player off the opposing team. If you already have a roster of five players you'll have to release a player from your team in order to take the new player.

Reputation points can also be spent on new gear and designing your team's court. As we have come to expect from EA, there are many, many choices of shirts, shoes, and other items to be purchased. Additionally, your home court can be altered with new graffiti, billboards, goals, nets, and logos. If you play long enough and earn enough reputation points, you can really alter the look of your home court to your liking. I had a lot of fun making my court. It gave me a sense of ownership and inspired me to play just a little bit harder on my own court. No way I'm losin' at home!

Once you get a good reputation going you'll get an invitation to play in the NBA Street Challenge. All 30 NBA teams are represented in a 14-game season with playoffs and best-of-three finals. The NBA Street Challenge can get pretty crazy. Stealing players from other NBA teams can make for a ton fun and a big mess at the same time. Players have egos and if you don't play them enough they will get upset and leave your team. Winning a game in the NBA Challenge is tough enough, but trying to balance Shaq and Kobe's egos at the same time makes for a good time.

The graphics are simply the best I've seen in a basketball game. They're crisp, clean, bright, and fun. While you don't see facial expressions, as in other games, the movements are fluid and lifelike, even with over-the-top moves. The sound is not that great. The music is okay. It's mostly rap, but it doesn't detract from the game. The narration of the games is redundant and rarely gets the play-by-play right, but again, the game is so good it doesn't detract from the experience. The only gripe I have is the A.I. is sometimes just plain dumb. If you are playing a game where only slam dunks count as points, then why do the opposing computer players take jump shots? I won a few games because the computer players wouldn't follow the rules of the game. Silly and a basic mistake in programming, but thankfully, the game is still good. So good, in fact, that this version of NBA Street V3 is likely to become a classic have-the-boys-over party game.
