Many video games have tried to imitate the feel of a pinball table with static, one-screen game experiences. Now Flipnic takes pinball out of bounds with its lush and creative multi-screen pinball worlds!

At heart, the game plays just like any other pinball game. Keep the silver ball from falling into the gutter with your flippers. Aim the ball up ramps and hit targets for the high score. But a ramp in Flipnic may take you to a totally new pinball table. Along the way, rolling on the ramp, you may see three or four pinball tables below you that you might get a crack at later. Don't forget to make your pinball jump to gather coins while rolling on the ramp. You can also open up multiple paths. In one instance, when you hit all the bumpers on one table in the jungle level to make butterflies land on the bumpers, the whole table will freeze over. Then you take your ball back to the table with the giant waterfall, hit it with the ball a few times, and the frozen falls will crack and you reach a new area!

There are four pinball tables you can choose from, each with its own theme, such as a rainforest table. You have to unlock each table by completing missions, but you can play all the tables in free play mode without continues. The last table isn't even a pinball game at all, but a Breakout/pinball hybrid similar to arcade games of the late 70's/early 80's like Gee Bee and Bomb Bee. The music in this level is decidedly 8-bit, and the graphics are mostly black and white! It's great! There are also some two player pinball challenges, like an interesting take on basketball and Pong.

Graphics are sharp and clear and the frame rate is super smooth. The audio features authentic pinball sounds and appropriate music. Play control is easy and responsive (this is pinball after all) and the ball physics are well done. Flipnic gets a little hard a bit too quickly, though. But for 20 bucks, it's still a fun little game of pinball.

The simple nature of the game makes it easy for the youngest of players to get the hang of it. But they might also get bored quickly with the basic gameplay. There's only one small instance in the game that some Christian parents may object to. In one level, if a UFO abducts your silver ball, the announcer on screen says, "Oh my God!" Christian families don't like taking the Lord's name in vain like that.
