He may be made of clay, but Gumbyメs GBA game is a fairly solid kidメs title.

Art Clokey's clay animated hero Gumby has delighted kids and kids at heart for 50 years now. What better way to celebrate this momentous occasion than with a new video game starring our green pal? In Gumby vs. the Astrobots, the mischievous Blockheads have stolen a powerful remote control from the Professor, and are using it to control the once friendly Astrobots. All of Gumby's friends and family have been chased into books in Toyland by the out of control Astrobots, and now Gumby must save his pals and stop those Blockheads!
Gumby's game is the most basic of 2D platformers. Hop from platform to ledge, stomp on Astrobots to send them out of commission, collect ice cream cones for extra lives and slices of pie to restore Gumby's energy. Hop into books to explore the Wild West, cold Antarctic, spooky Transylvania, or the Astrobot's moon base! Gumby can change his shape to help him pass obstacles or roll up into a ball to squeeze into small spaces (just like Metroid). He morphs into a mine cart to keep Pokey out of danger. Turn Gumby's legs into propellers for a double jump. Stick to walls and perform wall jumps. Gumby can do almost anything!
The best part of Gumby's game is the graphics. The 3D clay visuals almost leap off the screen. Characters are well-animated, too. You can even see Gumby's chest rise and fall as he ムbreathes.' Unfortunately, the music is extremely annoying and repetitive. Play control is simple and basic, although performing wall jumps is a little complicated. The only other problem with this game is that it is very easy and short. I beat it in an hour. But then, I'm sure this game was designed especially for kids. Young children with less game experience would probably enjoy Gumby vs. the Astrobots more.

There's hardly any violence on Gumby's adventure. He stomps on robots to stop them, but they always come back for more. Reading skills are helpful to understand the story and the tutorials, but it isn't necessary. Young gamers should enjoy Gumby's breezy adventure, but they may not be so familiar with the characters. If you buy Gumby vs. the Astrobots for your young ones, perhaps you can find a Gumby DVD to go along with it. They're sure to enjoy Gumby's timeless, imaginative adventures!
