Dead to Rights: Reckoning is the latest shooter to attempt to conquer the PSP, this time as a third-person action title. You are detective Jack Stone. With help from your faithful dog Shadow, you must find a kidnapped girl by chasing down leads that take you up against criminals, militia and old enemies.
That's about all there is to it. You go from area to area, killing everything that moves to unlock the door to the next area, where you once again kill everything that moves. This is broken up by an occasional boss battle, in which you have to kill a bigger thing that moves and his henchmen. After that there are some bad guys, then the boss, then more bad guys, until the final boss is dead. It's boring and repetitive and it gets worse. The camera and controls are lousy and often work against you. Too often you are running into an area and the camera moves automatically to an angle that makes it impossible for you to target enemies. The R button helpfully re-centers the camera behind you, but that is often be negated once you move and the camera swings again. Also, the nature of the battles forces you to constantly work the R button, and switching weapons is practically impossible once the early areas are complete. To top it off, this game is short. It's so short that a good gamer can probably finish in a single sitting. ![]() There is multiplayer, but it's not much better. You try to stay hidden until you can jump out and lock on to your opponent and shoot him more times and more quickly than he can shoot you. The multiplayer levels are also the same bland areas you got tired of in the few hours of single player action. Dead to Rights Reckoning is the type of game that comes and goes without any notice on established games systems. However, as a shooter on a platform with a dearth of shooters, it is immediately notable. Unfortunately that doesn't mean it's worth playing. It's a mediocre game not even worth a rental, let alone a purchase. ![]()
The game is a mindless bloodbath featuring dogs mauling people and slow motion scenes of the protagonist wrenching enemies' arms and killing them with their own guns. In other words, it is completely inappropriate for kids to play or see.
