The subtitle for this game is "Truck Me Harder". That's a big clue for who this game is targeted at. Sold at a budget price, most gamers probably dismissed this one the moment they saw the title. There isn't much inside the box to recommend, but it's not as bad as it seems. There's a group of people that will probably enjoy this game and even before you looked at this review you knew who you were.
Your fat mama has gone to prison and you're going to get her out by driving truck, paying off the jurors and getting her acquitted of her crime. The game is filled with a colorful cast of caricatures of American stereotypes. These characters are exagerrated all the more thanks to a European developer who is probably seeing America from the outside looking in. Most everyone in the game is crude and out for themselves while the driving goal of the game is simply to make a lot of money. You earn your bribery dough by transporting goods from one town to another and selling them for more than you paid. There are also some special jobs you get at the bars and those can be played later for fun outside the main story. It's in the driving where the game is lame. The truck's handling is just plain strange and it's not that entertaining just driving point to point. There are some hazards thrown in and you try to wreck as much stuff as possible on the way to the next town, but it's not enough to keep your attention for long. When you're tasked with earning a huge wad of dough to pay off another juror, these trips become especially monotonous, to the point of near anger at having to do it over and over again. ![]() While the main part of the game is troublesome, the gambling mini-games are a good time. Each town's bar has a different form of gambling available. You can play Poker, Hi-Lo, Blackjack and more trying to build up your cash. These casino games work great and break up the monotony of the driving. You can easily spend an hour just flipping, holding and drawing cards. The money doesn't roll in all that fast, but at least there's some fun to be had. The game also features radio stations that play various music styles and a silly talk-radio broadcast, all trying to emulate the success of Grand Theft Auto. These aren't loaded with high profile artists but there are some good songs to listen to while rolling down the road. That's really all there is to it. The game doesn't look all that bad and if you like the trailer-trash motif, then you will find some enjoyment. Some of the characters are funny while others are just dumb, but you've definitely got to be in the right mood to find its sense of humor entertaining. There are some things to unlock, but the rewards for playing through aren't worth the time or even the budget price. When the casino games steal the show from the driving game, you know there's a problem. ![]()
There's some cussin', some adult situations and a lot of off-color humor to be found in this game. One of the bars is a strip club, though you never get a look at the goods. Scantily clad women are the rule rather than the exception, but that's all part of this game's adult appeal. Expect big boobs. If this were more Dukes of Hazzard than it is trying to be Grand Theft Auto, it would probably have a lot wider appeal. Then again, gambling of any kind usually throws games right into adult territory since that's a vice we don't allow our children to participate in.
Steer clear of Big Mutha Truckers 2 for the little guys and even for the teen guys. There are far better choices for them both in content and where it counts, in the gameplay. Comments?
