DC's comic book super adolescents, the Teen Titans have been fighting a varied cast of villains and meeting up with other popular DC heroes for years now. The catchy theme song is just the first thing that sucks you in. Strong stories with consequences for these young heroes help them grow into adults. The villains are pretty great too. It's exciting to watch and now it's exciting to play as well. This Game Boy Advance version of Teen Titans isn't flashy, but it gets everything just right enough to recommend it to fans of the series.

The game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up with platform elements. That means you are kicking and punching your way through five levels of action. Best of all, you can be any of the Titans at any time. In fact, you have to switch between them to accomplish various tasks in the game. Raven will let you phase through dangerous laser beams while Cyborg shouts his signature BOOYAH! and pounds through the floors. The story involves Brother Blood and his attempt to clone the Titans. Seasoned veteran gamers will know that means plenty of hot doppleganger battling action. The standard enemy never changes throughout the game as The Hive provides countless baddies in a variety of colors to dispatch. Those colors are meaningful since you can take them out faster if you use the right Titan against them. Blue baddies drop quicker to Cyborg while red ones are left to Robin.

All the Titans' major powers are used in the game. Starfire can fly and fire beams from her eyes as well as throw bolts of green. Raven can call down the roof for a powered attack. Beast Boy has some of the best animation as he changes into a hawk, a rhino, a tiger and a gorilla depending on the move you're doing. The Titans' various powers come in most handy when fighting the bosses. Gizmo, Jinx and more appear to take on the team. Switching between team members is as simple as pulling the left trigger and selecting the Titan you want to control. As they take damage, you can swap them out and let them rest while you fight with a different character. This gives the game a solid team concept despite only ever controlling one character at a time.

The game is rather short, easily beaten in a day or two. There ought to be more variety in the enemies too. Fighting the same Hive guys over and over again does get old by the end of the game. There is also a terribly designed escape sequence that ends the game and is so frustrating you might not even finish because of it. Usually though, the game is easy and you're rarely in a situation where all the Titans get knocked out, ending the game. You can also save just about anywhere which is great for portability. The catchy theme song plays at the title screen but the rest of the music is very forgettable. Overall, it's still a good game for fans of the show, especially since you can play as any of the team. The animation is great and the action is pretty much non-stop. Teen Titans is nothing special for a side-scrolling beat 'em up, but it's still entertaining.

The Titans are really well-animated and look just like their TV show counterparts. Each of their powers matches up great with the show as well. Being able to switch between heroes at any time is exactly the kind of thing all games of this type need to include. The game has some short cutscenes that require a little reading but it's nothing major. These scenes get a chuckle or two also as they have the same sense of humor as the very cool TV show. There's nothing offensive in the text. The fact that you're punching your way through the game probably earned this a 10+ rating, but that seems a little high.

The biggest problem for kids will be the short length and the rather easy difficulty. Some kids will probably be looking for a little more than they get. In the end though, the boss battles and the story make it like playing through a single episode of the show. That's going to be the most appealing aspect of the game for kids. It's good to see that the game isn't just a cash-in on the Teen Titans' popularity. It could be better and more diverse, but what's here is definitely cool enough for kids.
