It's easy for me to understand why my kids don't like Ed, Edd n Eddy. There isn't much that's funny in their Mis-Edventures. The three Eds are always on a quest to be cool. Eddy is the ring leader who comes up with their various scams. Ed and Edd help facilitate them. The first Ed, with a single d, is the one that's not too bright. He's easy for Eddy to persuade. The other Edd, double d, is a lot smarter, nicer and neater. Without him, the other two Eds would be lost.
The game is an extension of their wacky antics from the cartoons. Each level is like an episode of the show with a clear goal that the three Eds want to accomplish. These levels are accessible from an unexciting Cul-de-Sac hub level. Each scam is more entertaining. Most of the gameplay revolves around typical 3D movement with hand-to-hand combat against squirrels, clams, alligators and more. The boys also need to use their brains to get past certain obstacles. They're outfitted with a number of special moves and you need to switch to each of them at different times to progress. It's all about as complicated as a poor man's Super Mario 64 and without any of the subtlety or even half the skill of that game. Control is loose which leads to some problems with precision segments where you have to toss basketballs at trash cans and in 3D jumping areas. ![]() As a licensed product, it captures the essence of the cartoon pretty well. The boys are always on the lookout for jawbreakers which serve as the number one collectible in the game. Their scams fit the motives of the characters on the show and plenty of the supporting cast makes an appearance. It looks good and is voiced by all the actors that perform for the show. The animation is all stylized in the same way it is on TV, a significant achievement given the comic book look of the characters and their environment. The weakest part of the presentation is the cinemas interspersed before and during the levels. They're not filmed that well and the dialogue is pretty weak. The cartoon isn't all yuks either, but this is often dreadful by comparison. Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures isn't something you should buy for the gameplay. It's only something fans of the show should pick up because they want to own every piece of licensed Ed gear they can get their hands on. The overall impact is disappointing and smacks of a quick cash-in on one of Cartoon Network's lower tier licenses. Every now and then it hits the right combination of on-screen shenanigans and silly situations to get a chuckle, but the poor writing is a big black mark against something that should be funny. It feels like you're just going through the motions of pushing buttons and tilting sticks instead of having a good time. ![]()
This is a borderline E rating. Most of the violence is directed towards animals and inanimate objects and none of it is seriously portrayed. However, the situations that the Eds get into usually revolve around them causing mischief of some kind. They're pretty good kids deep down, but that doesn't make them picking on other kids cool. Since most of the humor is pretty crude, when it even works, you want to seriously consider if this game is right for a six year old, though this is a lot more subjective than most games when it comes to age.
It's probably a moot point. The only way your kids are going to want this game is if they're big fans of the show. It's just not good enough for anyone else to pick it up. There are some easily unlockable items and the difficulty is pretty low so you can rest assured that even more casual game-playing kids can handle it and even finish it. It's a short game that they can probably get through in a week or less. This review edited by Dave Long Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
