He's so admired, his spin-off games have spin-offs. One of the more popular spin-offs is the Mega Man X series. Darker, grittier, and more challenging than the original series, Mega Man X and his sword wielding pal Zero have quite a following. Now you can play the first six games in the X series all on one disc.

The X games stay pretty close to the original series aside from the darker tone. Mega Man X (and later Zero), must defeat eight boss robots and acquire their weapons. The boss robots take on a form of an animal, and usually have some sort of element to go with it. You choose which stage to tackle first, and each boss is weak against another robot leader's weapon. It's up to you to figure out what their weaknesses are. For instance, Chill Penguin will fall to Flame Mammoth's fire weapon. Hidden in the stages are energy tanks and more powerful ability-enhancing armor parts for you to find. After you get all the robot's weapons you must venture to Sigma's fortress and take on the leader of the evil robot Mavericks himself.

Even though the 2D graphics are a bit dated, they are still vibrant and colorful. Emulation is great, too. You really feel like you're playing the Super Nintendo and PlayStation. Mega Man games are known for their catchy and memorable music to go along with the blasting action, and this collection doesn't disappoint in that regard. The X games included range from truly excellent (X1 and X4), to downright awful (X6). If you're a Mega Man "Xpert" you can also unlock a seventh game, Mega Man Battle & Chase, which is a kart racing game never before released in the US. It may not be as full of quality games as the first Mega Man Collection, but for X fans, this one is still a must have.

Some of the cutscenes in the later X games have some animated blood in them, which doesn't make much sense since they're all robots, but it's there all the same. Also, the later X games have some light cursing in the text. Because of this and the overall difficulty of these 2D classics, the Mega Man X Collection is best for older kid gamers only.
