But now, it's Peach's turn to rescue the boys! Using the mysterious and mystical Vibe Wand, Bowser's army storms the Mushroom Kingdom castle and captures Mario, Luigi, and all the Toads. Luckily, the Princess was out on a walk and didn't get caught. When she arrives and sees the castle in an uproar, without hesitation she grabs her trusty talking parasol and sets out for adventure on Vibe Island!

Super Princess Peach is pretty much like any other Mario 2D platformer, except that you are a princess instead of a plumber. You still tromp through colorful and happy worlds, stomping Goombas and Koopa Troopas along the way. Find and rescue three Toads hidden in each of the game's eight multilevel worlds. Even though the game stars the Princess, it's really no more girly than any other Mario game.

Use traditional Mario attacks and moves. With her helpful umbrella, Peach swats at enemies, floats in water, glides in the air, and scoops up enemies and tosses ムem. Controlling Peach is simple and responsive. Peach's umbrella also swallows held enemies to fill up her ムVibe Meter.' Peach uses the power of her emotions to bypass obstacles and beat baddies. Touch the corresponding heart on the bottom touch screen to change Peach's emotions. When happy, Peach flies while encased in a whirlwind that blows away stubborn enemies. Peach cries tears when saddened that make plants grow and water wheels spin. The Princess is literally on fire when she gets mad, and can burn down bridges and melt ice. Finally, calm restores Peach's heart energy.

Some believe Super Princess Peach is a sexist game because she uses her emotions. But Nintendo didn't just single out Peach when making her emotional attacks. Vibe Island is a magical place and everyone there, even enemies, have emotional abilities. Sad blue Goombas will cry and dash after you, happy Koopas will sometimes skip and jump erratically, and mad flying Goombas and Troopas will charge and thrash about. So Peach isn't the only emotional one in the game.

The music is bubbly and the graphics are charming, colorful, and well-animated. The bottom screen shows a big picture of Peach, and she claps her hands and laughs when something good happens and flinches when she gets hit. Her sprite on the top screen is cute, too. When she rescues a Toad after beating a world boss, she tosses her umbrella on the ground, runs over to Toad, grabs him with both hands and spins him around and around. It's so cute!

Hardcore gamers looking for a challenge won't find it with Peach. Her game is pretty light in the difficulty scale. But there is still a solid and enjoyable game here, with plenty of mini-games and secrets to buy and unlock. Mario fans and 2D lovers will enjoy Super Princess Peach.

Click to learn more about GamerDad's Kid Factor review section. Mario games are perfect for kids. The only violence you find is stomping on a happy turtle, knocking him out of his shell. Little reading skill is required to figure out how to play, and the light difficulty level makes it enjoyable for younger Mario fans as well. Both girls and boys will find delight in this adventure.
