Translation: ムThe UberSoldier is under my tires'. Overall UberSoldier is an average shooter with nice graphics and a few interesting features, but there are times during the game that you want to take the other characters, your own character or perhaps even the game disks and run over them with your car! What brings you to that point first? Is it the inane plot? The horrid voice acting? The hyperactive physics system? The pointless and frustrating turret level in mid-game? You have to play the game to find out!
UberSoldier is a straight-out intense shooter from start to finish, which is good because the shooter mechanics are pretty solid. One nice feature is that no weapon ever becomes obsolete, and the addition of a ムtime shield' adds some variety to the combat. The story and voice acting are bad to the point of being funny, but seldom get in your way. The game has no multiplayer and lasts about eight hours. There is nothing you can do to add replayability. The time shield gimmick begs to be exploited, but the rest is mindless shooter action. Let this one pass. ![]()
UberSoldier is violent, intense and bloody. There are exploding barrels, grenades galore, and nearly every location is the site of bombing runs sure to toss around enemies and allies as you work your way through them. The plot is weak and hackneyed. You are a German officer killed in action, but because your brain and body are intact you are used as a test subject for the new ムUberSoldier' project. Brought back to life using a special technique, a side effect is that you immediately and forever obey the first person to give you an order.
In a plot twist out of a Disney story gone bad, it turns out to be a beautiful young female resistance fighter who gives you your first order. You proceed to follow her around like some twisted love-sick combination of Frankenstein monster and the Terminator. The remainder of the game marches from setting to setting to uncover information regarding the ムUberSoldier' project and destroy every person and facility involved. The voice acting is bad to the point of being funny, at least for the first level. The protagonist has a voice that sounds like a bad ムTerminator' impersonation and the rest of the characters sound like they really don't understand what they're saying. Enemy soldiers are the worst. By the hundredth time you've heard ムit's the Rebels ... the Rebels are here', you turn down the sound and music once and for all. Some of the sights should be horrific, but they end up being rather silly at times. This game is a good example of something Dave Long has been alluding to in reviews and his Long Shot columnラthat there is more to the difference between a Teen game and a Mature game than blood spatter and body count. This one is an immature Mature game. It is all about the technical kill, the body count. The game rewards headshots and knife-kills. Three of either in a row within an allocated time limit increases either your time shield energy or your maximum health. I cannot recommend allowing kids to play a game that constantly rewards headshots and knife kills and is focused on people revived from death with knowledge of their past but without control of their future.
