GamerDad Seal Of Approval - Adult. Click to learn more about our review seal. Shadowgrounds is a top-down shooter that's both a retro and modern experience. It's entertaining with some minor flaws and limitations. You control your character using a keyboard and mouse similar to first-person shooters, but the action is viewed from the sky. It takes awhile to get used to the targeting, but eventually becomes natural. The biggest problems are the inability to manually save your progress resulting in repeating entire levels, and the lack of any online multiplayer. That's unfortunate because the single player game is relatively short. Some form of multiplayer would have greatly boosted the value. As a mid-priced action game, Shadowgrounds is a solid experience with a simple minded premise: upgrade your weapons, and as one of your allies says ムshoot everything that moves and be careful'.

Click to learn more about GamerDad's Kid Factor review section. Shadowgrounds is the type of throwback game that would be fun to share with the whole family if the characters were more cartoon-like. Oh, and if the settings were less realistic... and there wasn't a constant stream of inappropriate language. There's also the problem with constant blood and gore as you explode enemies with missiles and toast them with the flamethrower.

So perhaps there is no easy way to make this a family game. It's easier to see how the game could have been altered to be appropriate for teens that are likely to be very interested in this game. Since there are no options for removing offensive language or reducing the overall desperate and gory feeling of the game to acceptable levels, it's for adults only.

For those adults there is an entertaining game that combines intense action and near casual gaming. The story is straightforward science fiction stuffラa new space colony starts having problems and is soon overrun with hostile aliens. It's up to one person to do almost everything to rescue them. That person is you, so get moving!
