The latest craze sweeping newspapers and grocery store magazine racks is Sudoku. Fill a 9 by 9 grid with numbers 1 through 9, and no number can be used twice in any row, column, or 3 by 3 square. This popular puzzle phenomenon is now available on your Game Boy Advance.
Solve over 1,000 puzzles in Dr. Sudoku or create several of your own Entering numbers is easy as pushing a button. You can also mark possible choices or get help with the shoulder buttons. Change the backgrounds and music to your liking, but keep in mind that visuals are minimal and it's best just to turn the sound off. Dr. Sudoku isn't flashy, but it does a great job of providing puzzle fans with plenty of brain teasing fun. ![]()
Reading skill isn't required, but number recognition and a high level of logic are needed to solve the harder Sudoku challenges. There are no in-game instructions on how to play Sudoku, but the easiest levels are designed to show players the basics of the game as they play.
Because of the high level of logic required in the later puzzles, Dr. Sudoku is best for older kid gamers. Children who enjoy crosswords, find-a-word puzzles, or other pen and paper games may also enjoy Sudoku. Sudoku teaches logical thinking without the need for trial and error. Just like how some parents and kids solve pen and paper puzzles in workbooks and other places like Games Magazine together, families can help each other solve puzzles with Dr. Sudoku.
