Naruto is currently a popular Japanese comic book (manga), and cartoon (anime). In the series, Naruto and his friends and rivals are youths training to be great ninjas, and along the way they use their inner strength to uncover special ninja powers.
Now you can help Naruto and pals through a ninja adventure on your Game Boy Advance. Guide Naruto or Sasuke through 2D side-scrolling platform jumping stages as you punch, kick, run up walls, toss ninja stars, and use special powers to beat the bad guys and rivals. Collect secret scrolls to break down barriers, dig underground, and master other special moves. Unlock secret goodies along the way for added replay value. Graphics and music aren't very good for the GBA. Play control is somewhat decent, albeit a bit clunky in some of the close range attacks. Fans of anime and manga will get a big kick out of Naruto's adventure, but those who could care less would do best by skipping out on this ninja class. ![]()
Being a game about ninjas, obviously Naruto: Ninja Council has fighting and violence. But like most anime cartoons, it's very over the top and comical. There is no blood and defeated enemies just disappear or run away. Gameplay is very repetitive, just punch and kick and move forward, however a little snooping around might reveal a secret passage with some powerful goodies and items. Younger gamers may find the game a bit too hard for them, especially near the end, so it's best suited for older players. Reading skill is helpful to understand gameplay hints and dialogue.
As the rating descriptors say on the box, there are some mild suggestive themes. One of Naruto's special attacks turns him into a line of sexy scantily clad showgirl dancers to distract the enemy. Another character's special move heals by reading a book while hearts surround his head. It's very subtle, but could be interpreted that he's looking at a girly magazine. While most of the questionable content in the game is subtle and mild, the anime and manga it's based upon is more violent. Parents may want to look out for that if their kids want to watch Naruto's cartoon adventures after playing the game. Only older gamers who are Naruto fans will get the most out of this title.
