The ESRB Warns:
Violence: Lots of cartoon violence involving your ant-like troops battling enemy ant-sized troops. Oh and the carnage of a giant silver pinball crashing into the battle field as a weapon of war. Odama is a weird game. No, let me put that another way, Odama is a strategy game of battling samurai warriors featuring a giant pinball and a bell. That uses voice commands. See? Weird game. The gameplay amounts to using the included microphone (it plugs into your controller) to wheel, march, and charge your troops and have them protect a giant bell being carried on a litter by some of your men. Using the controller you can lead your troops into battle across a wide variety of terrain (ingenious marriages between pinball tables and towns, forests, hills, etc.,). Using flippers (and sending your men to capture more flippers) you can unleash the destructive power of the Odama ball (a giant pinball) to crush the fragile environment and enemy soldiers - or your own, if you're not careful. The game is incredibly hard, but equally full of personality. A brilliant game, emboldened by the effective marriage of pinball and strategy gaming, but marred by the extreme difficulty. ![]()
The tiny soldiers fight each other, run for their lives, and get crushed by a giant metal ball. It's a war game so death is rampant, but on a scale smaller than your average Army Men toys. The main reason to avoid this one for younger kids is because of the extreme difficulty. It's a maddening game but intensely creative and will teach children problem solving as well as basic strategy and... pinball skills!
