The ESRB warns:
CARTOON VIOLENCE: For the amount of blasting that goes on, all that ever happens is disassembly into LEGO blocks. Even when Luke gets his hand cut off it is just a LEGO piece, and the replacement scene is hilarious! CRUDE HUMOR: This is pretty mild stuff, unless seeing Stormtroopers in a hot tub in their underwear bothers you, or coming across a rebel hiding in a stall in a bathroom on Hoth. If you can't understand why last year's LEGO Star Wars was one of the most entertaining games of the year, I'm afraid I can't help you. If you avoided it simply out of loathing for the prequel movies, then shame on you. Now your salvation is at hand. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is every bit as fun as the first LEGO Star Wars, adds a few new twists, and is a wonderfully compelling experience. It works the same as the original game, using a third-person view of your party as you travel through familiar locations. You work your way through the stories, looking for canisters, LEGO studs and power bricks along the way. The controls are simple and direct, though you might want to use a gamepad for the PC version to handle one of the vehicle areas. Replayability is central to the game despite a lack of internet multiplayer options. There is simply no way to earn everything by playing story mode regardless of how thoroughly you search. Some areas require Bounty Hunters or Dark Force users such as Darth Vader, while there are other rewards for getting a certain amount of LEGO studs in ムfree play' mode. This sequel is much better at letting you know what rewards you've unlocked and how much progress you've made. All of it adds up to another winner of a game to share with your family when you are done playing it yourself. ![]()
This game teaches important lessons, such as that Greedo most certainly did not shoot first.
I loved the light-hearted feel of the first LEGO Star Wars. Even the tragic Jedi Temple scene was transformed into something sympathetic with some fun elements. This game captures that same feel. The multiplayer is just as casual. If your child is playing and wants you to help, drop-in for a few minutes and then drop-out when you are done without any repercussions to your kid's progress. It's more obvious that you won't find everything the first time through. Placement of Bounty Hunter doors and other items inaccessible by your current characters are clearer, and there are separate ムgold brick' rewards for ムfree play' and ムstory mode'. You find yourself compelled to keep going back to get more stuff again and again. The game rewards you with hidden areas and lots of fun little puzzles that provide an entertaining distraction along the path. That reward system keeps you replaying to have Vader battle Vader, or take Boba Fett through Dagobah, and other crazy character and backdrop combinations. The more things you find the more rewards you reap. There are unlockable characters, hidden levels, and a custom character generator that allows you to build any type of LEGO character you want to take through the adventure. It's the type of silliness that is addictive and never stops getting laughs. Since this is the Original Trilogy, the movies that purists want their kids to experience first (perhaps only), it is more inviting for full family play than the divisive Prequel Trilogy. So grab this game and your child and have a great time! This review edited by Dave Long Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
