The ESRB says...
Cartoon Violence: Danny Phantom blasts cartoony ghosts with fire, ice, and plasma blasts. Danny Phantom is just your ordinary high school kid. He goes to class, hangs out with his friends, and on occasion fights evil spirits in the ghost realm with his special powers. When the spirit of a disgruntled lunch lady wreaks havoc on the town, it's up to Danny Phantom to ムgo ghost' and save the day. Based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon, Danny Phantom: Urban Jungle is a 2D side-scrolling shooting game, much like classic arcade titles from the past. Guide Danny as he flies through his hometown and the ghost zone, blasting waves of bad ghosts with his plasma blasts. Pick up power-up capsules to upgrade Danny's shots with lasers and homing blasts. Danny can also use ghostly fire and ice blasts that use up his ムghost power' meter. Regain ghost power by sucking up ghosts or absorbing bullets. Taking a cue from some modern day shooters, Danny can change his ムpolarity' from red to blue, and absorb same colored bullets to gain power and keep from getting damaged. Urban Jungle's 3D graphics are clean and simplistic, but reflect the style of the cartoon show well. Ghost bosses at the end of the stages are so large they take up the whole screen and are well animated and look just plain cool. Play control is generally decent, but selecting health and weapons pick-ups with the touch screen is a little cumbersome sometimes. For fans of the cartoon and classic style 2D shooters, Danny Phantom: Urban Jungle is a pretty spirited little game. (Groan. --ed.) ![]()
Kids should enjoy the popular Nick cartoon characters and easy to understand classic gameplay. A thorough tutorial teaches the basics, though reading is required as every description and story sequence in the game uses text, not voice. Selectable difficulty lets gamers of all skills enjoy Danny Phantom. Young gamers can do the super easy mode while harder modes challenge older players.
As 2D shooters go, the game is a bit short and may not keep kids attention for a very long time. Even though the game is about spirits and ghosts, there is nothing scary and there are no religious or occult references or overtones. If your kids are OK with the cartoon, they'll be OK with the gameラand for a game based on a cartoon, Danny Phantom: Urban Jungle isn't half bad. This review edited by Dave Long Comments?
